Lake Travis WR will skip Senior year

The #2 returning receiver in Class 4A is not going to play football during his Senior year. Lake Travis Wide Receiver Cohl Walla decided to skip football during his senior year to concentrate on baseball. Even though, football fans are disappointed, it looks like the decision paid off when he committed to play baseball for the Texas Longhorns.

Walla had 1072 yards in receiving last year and that will be a tough act to replace for the 3rd ranked Cavaliers. Walla was to be record setting QB Garrett Gilberts favorite target this year after they lost the states leading receiver to graduation this year.

Champions Classic series in Abilene

EVENT: Champions Classic

LOCATION: Shotwell Stadium, Abilene

LINEUP: Duncanville vs. Odessa Permian, August 28; FW Dunbar at Abilene , August 29; FW Wyatt at Abilene Cooper, August 30

ORIGIN: The Abilene Sports Commission started their series in 2006 to create an annual event to elevate the city of Abilene regionally and to take advantage of the improvements that have been made to historic Shotwell Stadium. The location is close to DFW, Midland-Odessa and Lubbock .

ALUMNI: Southlake Carroll

STAR POWER: After being unable to land a TV agreement which would have resulted in additional sponsorship revenue, the ASA had to release Belle ( Fla. ) Glades Central and Riordan ( Calif. ) from verbal commitments to participate in the event, and found capable replacements in Wyatt and Dunbar. Dunbar has a talented WR in Darious White, but lack of depth should make this a difficult challenge against one of the top schools in West Texas . Both schools will return again in 2009. Abilene vs. Glades Central would have been one of the top matchups of the regular season.

TICKETS: Shotwell handles each of the three events just like playoff games, with individual tickets.

PROJECTED ATTENDANCE: 20,000/3 Games.
