The 5A Championship games will be played in the elements even though they will be held at Reliant Stadium on December 20th. The roof at Reliant Stadium is under repair after suffering Hurricane Ike related damage and will remain open for the remainder of the football season.
Indoor stadiums like the Alamodome in San Antonio have hosted the 5A Championships in the past. Another difference is that most high school football playoff sites have artificial surfaces, while Reliant has a grass surface.
Reliant Stadium will play host to the Class 5A state football championships for the first time in history. The Division II game will start at 2 pm and the Division I game will be at 7 pm.
