It is now time to look back and see how those pre-season rankings in August stacked up. Looking at the pre-season Class 4A Top 25, 24 of the 25 teams made the playoffs. The top 25 included one Champion, both RunnerUps, two semifinalist and one quarterfinalist.
The Austin Lake Travis Cavaliers completed their perfect season with a 2nd consecutive championship winning the Division I crown. They were the pre-season #3 overall and #1 among Division I teams. In Division II, the Sulphur Springs Wildcats (pre-season #30) won the title by knocking out two Top 25 teams along the way.
Of the 23 teams in the pre-season top 25 that eventually lost in the playoffs, 11 of them were knocked out by other pre-season Top 25 teams.
Austin Lake Travis, Longview and Everman each defeated two pre-season top 25 teams along the way. Waco Hewitt Midway (pre-season #59) also took out two pre-season top 25 teams.
