Coach G.A. Moore Returns

Texas High School Football’s coach with the most wins in history will be walking the sidelines once again. Coach G.A. Moore will come out of retirement to take over the head coaching position at class 2A Aubrey.

The Aubrey school board approved a two-year, $100,000 contract with Moore to coach the Chaparrals. Aubrey finished last season at 5-5 which included a season ending 41-16 loss to Pilot Point. Coach Moore was the Head Coach at Pilot Point 1977-1985 and 2002-2004. He retired after the 2004 season.

Moore who is now 70 years old, coached 39 of his 42 seasons at Celina and Pilot Point. His Celina teams won state championships in 1974, 1995 and then four consecutive state titles in 1998-2001 His teams at Pilot Point won state titles in 1980 and 1981. In all, he had 412 career victories and eight state titles before he retired.

Coach Moore takes over the job vacated by Daryl Hellman , who coached the Chaparrals for eight seasons to a 37-38 record before stepping down to concentrate at being the school districts athletic director.

Moore has grandchildren at Aubrey, and his son is a coach there.

Corsicana Picks Castles As New Head Coach

Phil Castles has been named the new Head Coach at Corsicana. Castles has previously been the Head Coach at Tyler Chapel Hill and Elysian Fields and was an assistant coach under Tom Wilson in Corsicana for the 1998 season. He was also an assistant at Texarkana Texas High.

Coach Castles first head coaching job was at Elysian Fields from 2002-04 where he finished 28-9 and won two district titles. After that, he went to Tyler Chapel Hill and coached the Bulldogs to a 24-22 record over the last 4 seasons including making the playoffs the last 3 years. Before Castles arrived at Tyler Chapel Hill, they had missed the playoffs seven out of eight years.

Castles replaces Dave Henigan, who was 35-21 in five seasons as the Tigers coach. Henigan resigned and is now the head coach at Grapevine.

Corsicana was 5-5 in 2008, and missed the playoffs.

Class 1A Offensive Player of the Year Will Be a Longhorn In 2010

Cayuga’s record breaking Running Back Traylon Shead has made a verbal commitment to be a Texas Longhorn in 2010. Shead becomes the 14th commitment for the 2010 class and is the first running back of that class to commit to the Longhorns.

Shead rushed for 3,502 yards and 52 touchdowns in 2009 and led Cayuga to the state championship game. He was named the Associated Press Class A Offensive Player of the Year and Texas Sports Writers Association Class A Offensive Player of the Year.

Traylon’s other offers were from Texas A&M, University of Houston and University of Tulsa.
