Rio Vista Hires Craig Carpenter

The Class 2A Rio Vista Eagles have hired Craig Carpenter as their new head coach and athletic director. Carpenter will take over the position left open when Robert Dagley retired in March.

This will be Carpenters first head coaching job. He started off as the defensive line coach for Pittsburg from 1998-1999. From 1999-2001, Carpenter was the defensive line coach at Alvarado High School. From 2001-2002, he was the defensive ends coach at Brewer High School and was the defensive coordinator at Glen Rose from 2002-2004. From 2004-2006, Carpenter was the assistant head football coach at Rockdale High School and was also the defensive and special teams coordinator. His most recent job was at Midlothian where he was the assistant head football coach, defensive coordinator and the offseason coordinator.

He will have his hands full. The Eagles are on a 5 year losing streak and have not won more than six games in 8 years. Last season they finished 4-6 for the third consecutive year.

Lockhart Coach Troy Moses heads to Beeville Jones

Lockhart Head Coach Troy Moses has taken the job at Beeville Jones vacated by Chris Soza. Moses lead Lockhart to a 7-2 record and a Bi-District Championship in 2008, just one year removed for a 1-8 record in 2007.
Beeville Jones went 6-4 in 2008 and they added 2 gold balls to their trophy case before getting eliminated by Kerrville Tivy in the regional quarterfinals. Head Coach Chris Soza left to take the position at his alma mater, Alice.

We wish Coach Moses the best of luck with the Trojans!

Three Rivers Coach Eddie Hesseltine Accepts Corpus Christi King Job

Corpus Christi King has hired former Three Rivers head coach Eddie Hesseltine as their new head coach. Hesseltine takes over for Jim Elam who resigned in February after going 3-7 in 2008. Elam compiled a 37-57 record in his nine years guiding the Mustangs.

Hesseltine’s Class 2A Bulldogs went 9-2 in 2008 where he led them to the second round of the playoffs. During the regular season, the Three Rivers defense gave up an average of just 7.8 points per game and recorded five shutouts. Three Rivers had winning seasons all 3 years that Hesseltine was there. Before his arrival, they had 5 consecutive losing seasons.

By comparison, King gave up an average of 29.5 points per game last season and is currently on a 5 year losing streak.

Quisenberry Out At Midland Lee

Randy Quisenberry will no longer be the head coach at Midland Lee. Quisenberry has resigned the position and was placed on paid administrative leave. He is currently under investigation for “unprofessional treatment of students.”

Coach Quisenberry took over the Midland Lee program in 2004 and led the Rebels to a 30-27 record and his teams made the playoffs in all five of his seasons. He started out as a Permian assistant from 1990-95. He then became Odessa’s head coach in 1996 and stayed in the position for three seasons. From there he took over at Abilene Cooper. He stayed there from 1999-2003 before replacing John Parchman as the Midland Lee head coach.
