Mesquite State Qualifying Tournament Pools

Here are the pools for the Mesquite State Qualifying Tournament. Only 2 teams have already qualified for the state tournament. There are five Mesqite teams playing in this tournament. One in pools A, B & C and two in pool D.

Pool A: Mesquite, Rockwall Heath, Plano, Garland Naaman Forest

This pool will be a lot of fun to watch. All of these teams are very good and should be playing in the state tournament. Mesquite has gone 2-1 in SQT play this year. Their QB Xavier Smith has a lot of options when throwing the ball. Plano has a 5-4 SQT record with 3 of thier losses coming to teams that have qualified for state. Rockwall Heath and Garland Naaman Forest are both making thier first SQT appearance this season. Look for Naaman Forest WR John Harris to be a difference maker.

Mike's Pick: Mesquite

Pool B: West Mesquite, Arlington Seguin, Wylie, South Garland

West Mesquite is 2-2 in SQT play this year making it to the semifinals at the Wylie SQT. Arlington Seguin has gone 0-3 this year and will have a tough time again getting a win in this pool. Wylie has gone 2-4 including a 30-42 loss to pool opponent South Garland who has already qualified for the state tournament.

Mike's Pick: West Mesquite

Pool C: Mesquite Horn, Garland, Irving MacArthur, Rowlett

Mesquite Horn has a 2-2 SQT record this year making it to the semifinals at the Arlington Bowie SQT. Garland has gone 1-2 in SQT play with their 2 losses being by a total of 7 points. Irving MacArthur has lots of talent. They are led by RB James Sims and DB Ray Mitchell (Rice committment). They have an overall 4-3 SQT record making it to the Colleyville Heritage semifinals. Rowlett will be making thier fist showing this year.

Mike's Pick: Irving MacArthur

Pool D: North Mesquite, Mesquite Poteet, Cedar Hill, Garland Lakeview

North Mesquite has gone 0-3 in pool play this year. Mesquite Poteet and Cedar Hill will both be making their first appearances this year. Cedar Hill has not participated in an SQT in the 5 years that I have been covering 7 on 7. They will be loaded with talent like RB Ben Malena and LB Aaron Benson some of the most gifted players in the state. Garland Lakeview has already qualified for the state tournament.

Mike's Pick: Cedar Hill

Semifinals Picks:

Mesquite over West Mesquite
Irving MacArthur over Cedar Hill
