7 on 7 State Championship Division II Pool Breakdown (Pools A – D)

Here are the Division II State Championship pool breakdowns with stats, key players and of course my predictions. (POOLs A - D)

Pool A: Anahuac, Brownwood, McGregor, Rice Consolidated

Anahuac and McGregor are both making their first appearance. Anahuac will be led by SOPH DB Justin Albritton and WR Braxton Mayes while McGregor will counter with WR Peyton Fisk and DB Cruz Chaires. Rice Consolidated who made it to the Quarterfinals last year will feature the pass/catch duo of QB Myles Dumont (2092 yards passing in 2008) and WR Mario Hull). Brownwood has been coming to the state tournament for years now with the Division I teams (10th consecutive appearances). They made it to the Semifinals last year in the Division II tournament and are the only 3A team in this pool. They will be led by new teammate WR Jaxon Shipley (919 yards receiving with Coppell in 2008). You have to go with the veteran 7 on 7 teams here.

Mike's Picks: 1. Brownwood 2. Rice Consolidated 3. Anahuac 4. McGregor

Pool B: Bandera, Celina, Hitchcock, West

All four of these teams have qualified for the Division II state tournament all 3 years. Bandera is making their 5th overall and 5th consecutive appearance. Their QB Cole Hubble (2091 yrds passing in 2008) will be throwing to his favorite WR Cisco Ruiz (874 yards receiving in 2008) while the defense will be led by DB Zach Young. Celina won the Division I State Championship in 2000 and then won the first ever Division II State Championship in 2007. This will be their 8th overall appearance. They made the 1999 DI Quarterfinals and the Quarterfinals last year in Division II. QB Cody Worrell will lead the offense and LB Caleb Lavey (Committed to Oklahoma State Top 15 OLB in the Nation) will lead the defense. Hitchcock is the only 2A school in this pool. They will be led by QB Morris Tuck (2055 yards passing), RB/LB Darius Dotson and WR Dvante Provost. West rounds out the pool with athletes like QB Kelvin Anthony and RB Cody Aycock. You cant bet against Celina!!

Mike's Picks: 1. Celina 2. Bandera 3. Hitchcock 4. West

Pool C: Burnet, Lovejoy, Palacios, Whitney

All 4 of these teams are in 3A. Burnet is making thier 4th overall appearance at the state tournament but only their first in Division II. They made it to the 2002 DI Quarterfinals and were the 2003 DI Runner Ups. Their key players will be QB Dillon Chafin (1925 yards passing in 2008) and DB Josh Barrera. Lovejoy is in their 2nd varsity season and will be making their 2nd consecutive appearance in the state tournament. A couple of juniors headline this team. JR RB Blake Martin (1533 yards rushing in 2008) and Jr QB Michael Means. WR Hayden Marsh will also provide Senior help. Whitney is making their 1st appearance led by a Sophomore QB (Dillon Hightower). His key targets will be WR Chris Gipson and WR Colton Galleway. Palacios will be making their 2nd overall appearance. Burnet is back!!

Mike's Picks: 1. Burnet 2. Lovejoy 3. Whitney 4. Palacios

Pool D: Cameron Yoe, Edna, Graham, Melissa

This will be Cameron Yoe 2nd appearance but the first since 2002. They will be bringing a good group of athletes in QB Steven Townsend (1671 yards passing in 2008), RB James Wells, WR Brandon Freeman and LB Trevion Sims. Edna will be making their 1st appearance and their hopes will be in the hands of QB Kam Jones. Graham is making their 3rd overall appearance and they will have lots of star power. QB Case McCoy (2226 yards passing in 2008), who is Colts brother and is also committed to Texas will lead the way. Other key players for Graham are WR Dillan Fulford, DB Hubbell Allen, LB Ethan Hiser and RB Cameron Bailey. Melissa is the only 2A school in this pool. This will be their 3rd consecutive appearance. They will be led by RB Cody Morgan and WR Brodie Russell. Case will lead Graham to the top of the standings.

Mike's Picks: 1. Graham 2. Cameron Yoe 3. Melissa 4. Edna
