Notes:
Fort Bend Elkins will tie the school record for most consecutive winning seasons at 2 in 2009. They snapped an 8 year losing streak in 2008 which is the longest in their 16 year history. If you believe that games are won in the trenches then the Knights will be in great shape led by Jake Matthews, the son of Houston Oiler great Bruce Matthews. Look for Elkins to battle for that 4th playoff spot and finish the season around 6-4. A trip to the Area round of the playoffs would be a surprise.

Notes:
Lexington missed the playoffs last year for the first time in six years. In 2009, they will be bringing back 15 starters and 26 lettermen which will put them into a position to battle for that 3rd playoff spot in district 25-2A. RB/LB clinton Hutson is a leader on both sides of the ball and will be counted on to lead the Eagles to the playoffs. Expect a 6-4 season and if things go well a 7-3 record with 2 rounds into the playoffs being the max. Coach Holcomb would love to get back to the glory years of 2004-2006 where they went 36-8. Interesting enough, the Eagles were 21-21 in his first 4 years, 36-8 his next 3 years and now 11-9 for the last 2 years. Maybe this will be the year they turn things around.

Returning Lettermen: 13

Returning Starters: Offense: 4 Defense: 6

Key Players:
RB Josh Greathouse 1377 yards rushing 13 TDs

Notes:
Shiner will add to their 11 year winning streak with another great season and battle Ganado for the 27-1A district title. They dont have many starters coming back so it will be a stretch for them to get further than the Quarterfinals in 2009. The Comanches will be led by a very good back in Greathouse who should go for over 1500 yards this season.

OL Corbin Boettger 1st Team All-State graded over 95 percent; no sacks allowed
OL/DE JaQwalin Arps Honorable Mention All-State Committed to Texas Tech
DE Jimmay Mundine

Notes:
Denison will be one of the top teams in the state in Class 4A this season. A run to the championship game is not out of the question. Even though its not likely, they would probably love to face La Marque in the championship again to avenge their 0-3 record against them in state title games. D.J. Jones is one of the best backs in the state and he has a great offensive line to run behind. If they make it to the championship game, look for him to have 3000 or more rushing yards. With 14 starters and 42 lettermen returning, this looks to be a state title year for the Yellow Jackets.

Returning Starters: Offense: 4 Defense: 6

Key Players:
RB Matt Anderson Honorable Mention All-State 1601 yards 24 TDs rushing
DE Tyler Vickery 8 sacks

Notes:
Industrial turned things around from 2-8 in 2007 to 10-2 in 2008 and a trip to the reginals. The Cobras will once again battle Hitchcock for the 29-2A championship. Last year they won 42-35 at home…this year the game will be in Hitchcock with everything on the line. Another great game to watch will be against Refugio. These teams will probably both go Division II and could meet up in the Bi-District playoffs. Look for Matt Anderson to get the ball even more this season (2000 yards?) and the Cobras to finish the regular season 8-2 or 9-1.

Returning Lettermen: 15

Returning Starters: Offense: 5 Defense: 3

Key Players:
QB Seth Grubb 1257 yards passing 940 yards rushing
OG Victor Buitrago
OT JR Tommy Kosub

Notes:
La vernia will make it 13 consecutive playoff appearances in 2009. They will cruise through 27-3A to win the district title behind QB Grubb and the Bears big offensive line. Once in the playoffs though, an area or reginal finish will be about it. A great game to go see will be when they play Cuero. The Bears won 21-6 last year. Since they play such a tough pre-district schedule look for them to finish around 7-3.

LB Ellis Glaw 62 tackles
RB/LB Bryce Hager 91 tackles 3 TFL 3 INT’s
CB Louie Swope 95 tackles 1 INT 9 PB Committed to SMU

Notes:
The big news at Austin Westlake is the retiring and hiring of head coaches. In a surprise move, Darren Allman left Odessa Permian to take over the Chaparrals. The Chaps have 22 consecutive winning seasons and have had winning seasons 35 years in their 39 year history and this year will be another winning season. They will be the favorites in 25-5A and led by QB Price and a very tough defense they should make a good run into the playoffs. They may not make it to the championship game but a showing in the quarter or semifinals would not be a surprise.

History:
22 CONSECUTIVE WINNING SEASONS
21 consecutive playoff appearances

OL/DL Austin Bamert 93 tackles 17 TFL 1st Team All-State OL
DB Adrian Muniz 6 INTs, JR LB Juan Sanchez 130 tackles

Notes:
With the departure of QB Wes Wood and his 65 TD passes, it will be very difficult for Muleshoe to duplicate their championship season of 2008. The Mules will battle Childress for the 2-2A title and are the favorites to win it. After that they may be looking at another matchup in the regional round against Littlefield who they have faced in the playoffs for the last 3 years. They will probably not make it to the championship but will have another great season. Expect a 7-3 or 8-2 regular season with a run to the Regionals.

Returning Lettermen: 21

Returning Starters: Offense: 5 Defense: 3

Key Players:
WR Jordan Mengele 46-529 yards 6 TDs receiving
OT Armani Brumfield-Taylor
OT Chad Rocheleau
S Kyle Davis 8 INTs

Notes:
Playing in one of LSG’s favorite districts, San Antonio Reagan will have a hard time duplicating the 11 wins they achieved in 2007 and again in 2008. Returning only a total of 8 starters and 21 lettermen, the Rattlers will rely on a strong offensive line and S Kyle Davis on defense to make it back to the playoffs. Look for them to finish between 5-5 and 7-3 and battle for that 4th playoff spot.

History:
School is only 9 years old (Began varsity play is 2000)

3 CONSECUTIVE 9+ wins in a season
