Coaching Changes — New Caney

New Caney has named Tim Hensley as their new head coach and athletic coordinator. Hensley will replace Russell Roberts who stepped down at the end of the 2009 football season.

Roberts ends his 3 year stint at New Caney with a 5-24 record. His overall career record is 186-172-4 which puts him at #100 on the all-time coaching wins list.

Hensley comes over from Copperas Cove where he was the co-defensive coordinator since 2005. This will be his first head coaching job. Before his years at Copperas Cove, he was Special Teams Coordinator for Cypress-Fairbanks and Co-Defensive and Special Teams Coordinator for Bay City.

There is good news and bad news for Eagle fans. The good news is that they will be dropping to 4A after spending the last 2 seasons at 5A. The bad news is that their talent pool is not as large with New Caney Porter beginning varsity play this season. They will also be part of a tough District 18-4A. Other teams in this district are Conroe Caney Creek, Humble, Humble Kingwood Park, Humble Summer Creek, Huntsville, New Caney Porter and Willis. New Caney went 2-8 last season including an 0-5 mark in District 14-5A. They last reached the playoffs in 2003 and have not had a winning season since going 6-4 in 2004. Their record over the last 5 seasons is 13-33.

Hensley joins Rodney Southern (Belton), Thed Harris (Marshall) and Howard McMahan (Pflugerville Connally) as former Copperas Cove assistants who have taken on head coaching positions.
