Cypress Creek will be the host of this SQT. Here are the pools, players to watch and of course our predictions.

Pool A: Cypress Creek, Cypress Ranch, Langham Creek, Strake Jesuit

Cypress Creek is the host and will look to qualify after missing out in two semifinals last year and finishing 1-2 last week at the Texans Sunday SQT. They have great athletes in QB Chuckie Keeton 1096 yards 14 TDs rushing 1366 yards 10 TDs passing, RB Jermichael Selders 1533 yards 23 TDs rushing and RB Cameron Gary. Cypress Ranch went 0-3 in SQT play last year but will try again during their first year of varsity play. Langham Creek was the only team in this pool to make it to the state championshipas last year but they went 0-3 in last weeks Texans SQT. Houston Strake Jesuit who finished 1-5 in SQT play last season will be lead by LB Will Huskinson and DB Evan Fichter.

Pool B: Cypress Fairbanks, Cypress Springs, Katy Cinco Ranch, Rosenberg Terry

Cypress Fairbanks was the Runner Up in the state tournament last year losing by a last minute INT return for a TD by Round Rock Stony Point. They will rely on RB Darius Barnes to take them back. Katy Cinco Ranch will look to improve on their 1-2 finish last week at the Texans SQT. They will feature superstar RB K.C. Nlemchi 2388 yards 28 TDs rushing 315 yards 4 TDs receiving commmitted to SMU and WR Bobby Waid. Cypress Springs looks to avenge a semifinal loss at this SQT last season. Rosenberg Terry always brings a very good SQT team.

Pool C: Cypress Falls, Cypress Woods, Klein Forest, Tomball

Klein Forest and Tomball both made it to the state tournament last year while Cypress Woods lost in the semifinals of this SQT last year and Cypress Falls lost twice in semifinal games. Tomball went 0-3 last week at the Texans SQT while Cypress Woods went 2-1 led by WR’s Clesmie Burden and Patrick Gant. Cypress Falls is always a dangerous team with RB Pierre Lucas and WR Dean Johnson. Klein Forest will be a very fun team to watch with superstar JR QB Matt Davis leading the way. He will bring along TE Kristian Bryant and LB D.J. Simon.

Pool D: Cypress Lakes, Jersey Village, Houston Stratford, The Woodlands

The pool will feature this SQT’s champion and runner up from last season. In 2009, Jersey Village beat The Woodlands 31-20. Only Cypress Lakes (0-3 in SQT play last year) did not make it to the state championships last year out of this pool. Houston Stratford went 3-0 last week at the Texans SQT led by DB Matt Sherrard but they fell to Klein Collins in the semifinal game. The Woodlands finished 2-1 last week at the Texans SQT and will be a strong contender with QB Joseph Schneider and RB Daniel Lasco 1520 yards 17 TDs. Jersey Village always brings a strong team to the SQTs.

Pool A: Pearland Dawson, Clear Creek, Friendswood, Clear Springs

Pearland Dawson was the only team in this pool to make it to the state championships last year which helped them to a semifinal showing in 11-man in only their second year of varsity play. They will bring lots of talent with WR Marcus Vaughn 53-945 9 TDs Rec, WR Devin Killpatrick, WR Randall Weeks, ATH Max Brown and DB Steve Orisakwe. Friendswood will show off one of the best QB’s in this SQT with Peter Maetzold 2798 yards 30 TDs and DB/WR Matt Kennemer 14-372 5 TDs Rec. 2 INTs. Clear Creek and Clear Springs both lost in the semifinals last season at Texas City and they have the talent to make it to state this year. Clear Creek will showcase WR Tevin Jones 39-509 5 TDs Rec., WR C.J. McElroy 277 rushing 495 receiving 8 Total TDs and ATH Tad Pierce 49 Tackles 3 INTs. Clear Springs who also made it to the quarterfinals in 11-man in only their second year of varsity play will bring a very talented field. They will feature WR Dimitri Donald 43-523 3 TDs Rec., LB Trevon Randle 152 tackles 3 INTs Committed to LSU, LB/DB Donnie Baggs 91 tackles 4 sacks COMMITTED to Texas A&M, LB Brandon Mickens 42 tackles 3 sacks, DB Sam Richardson Blocked eight kicks and scored twice in the return game 63 tackles 6 INTs and DB Howard Matthews COMMITTED to Texas A&M.

Houston Lamar has already qualified for state and will not be able to defend the championship they won at this SQT last year. They were the winner of the Houston Texans Saturday SQT. Houston Chavez is also in this pool and they have also qualified for state being the Runner up at the Houston Texans Saturday SQT. Pasadena Memorial went 1-2 in pool play last week. Elkins is the only team in this pool that did not play last week and they will bring a lot of talent in RB Donte Clark 361 rushing 299 receiving, RB Jarvis Dancy, WR Darius Brown, DB Jaylon Finner 71 tackles 4 Ints 8 PB, DB Lamar Edwards and DB Tre’ Spragg. Elkins was the Runner Up at this SQT last season.

Pool C: Manvel, Willis, Channelview, Texas City

Texas City and Channelview both won their pools and Manvel went 1-2 in pool play last Saturday at the Texans SQT. Both Texas City and Channelview lost in the semifinals though to Houston Lamar and Houston Chavez. Willis who will feature WR Damien Bishop did not play last week. Manvel will once again play without star QB and Colorado commit Dexter Foreman. They missed out last year losing twice in the semifinals including in this SQT. None of these teams made it to the state tournament last season.

Pool D: Alvin, Alief Elsik, Montgomery, Houston Worthing

None of these teams made it to the state championship either last year. Montgomery led by QB Tyler Bolfing, RB Leroy Dobbins 2629 yards 24 TDS rushing, WR Mitchell Buick and WR Arrius Holleman went undeated in pool play last Sunday at the Texans SQT but lost to a very good San Antonio Alamo Heights team in the semifinals. Alief Elsik will be pretty good with QB Kurt Lambert and WR Demarcus Smith. Alvin went 2-7 in SQT play last year while Houston Worthing went 2-1 last week at the Texans SQT.

Temple and Marble Falls both made the state tournament last season with Marble Falls being the Runner Up at this Westwood SQT last year. Del Valle went 1-2 in SQT play last year and will be led by RB Aaron Chisholm. Round Rock Westwood is the host and will feature QB Grant Peterson.

Cedar Park Vista Ridge is the only team in this pool to reach the state championships last year. Round Rock McNeil went 1-5 in SQT play last year but will bring lots of talent in RB Shai Simmons, WR Cooper Lewis, TE Tracy Mitchell, ATH Joshua Williams and LB Matt Mainiero. Pflugerville will bring QB Alex Dean, RB Storm Woods 683 yards 8 TDs, RB Julian Ward and DB Alex Matlock while Killeen Harker Heights will feature RB DeAndre Jones, LB Vladimir Gray and DB Tyler Babb.

Pool C: Round Rock Copperas Cove Brenham Abilene Cooper

Abilene Cooper and Copperas Cove both made the state tournament last season while Round Rock (0-6) and Brenham (1-5) combined for a 1-11 record in SQT play. Abilene Cooper will feature two very good RB’s in Alford Cooper 818 rushing 277 receiving 12 total TDs and Davon Riddick 868 yards 15 TDS rushing 200 yards 2 TDs receiving. Copperas Cove always brings at talented team and they will be led by LB Brandon Durant. Even though they didnt do well last year in 7-on-7, Brenham was the Class 4A Division II Runner Up in 11 man football. Look for them to do better this year as they feature one of the best WR’s in the state in Derek Edwards 58-814 10 TDs Rec. Committed to Texas Tech. Other Brenham stars include FB Marcus Wilkins, ATH Christian McBride, DB Rodney Hubert Committed to SMU and DB Desmon Mathis 68 tackles 6 TFL 6 sacks.

A WOW pool…this one will be very fun to watch. This pool features the defending state 7-on-7 Champion in Round Rock Stony Point and maybe this sQT’s best Quarterbacks in David Ash and Josiah Monroe. Belton was the only team in this pool not to make the state tournament last season but this year they will bring Texas commmitt QB David Ash 141-249 2002 yrds 22 TDs, RB Donovan Williams, WR Adrian Henderson and DB Darrius White. Belton will feature QB Josiah Monroe 571 yards 4 TDs rushing 2136 yards 22 TDs passing and WR Mustafa Akbar. The defending champs will bring a lot of great athletes also in QB Aaryn Sharp 464 yards 9 TDS rushing 1038 yards 10 TDs passing, RB/WR Stephen Williams 389 yards 2 TDS Rushing 47-538 4 TDS Rec., RB Samuel Kelley, LB P.L. Lindley 90 tackles 4 sacks Oklahoma Commitment and DB Trevor Caswell.

Frisco Liberty is the host and will feature WR Cameron Brown 20-202 3 TD Rec. and WR Malcolm Hill. Plano comes in as the only team in this pool to make it to the state tournament last season and they will be led by QB Connor Michelsen and WR Murat Kuzu. Lake Dallas lost in two semi-final games last season including this tournaments. Wylie East is one of the new schools that will begin varsity play this year.

Lewisville Hebron is loaded and will feature QB Kyle Aubuchon, RB Devin Flynn (898 yards 5 TDs rushing), WR JR Kiante’ Griffin, WR Kurt Walker, LB Lawrence Varnado and DB David Jenkins 27 tackles 2 INTs. Plano East will bring a loaded team featuring RB Martin Terrance, WR Ryan Garrey, LB Sam Trotter and DB Lyndell Johnson 72 tackles 3 INTs 4 PB.
