Allen Wins Matchup Of Top 10 Teams; Pearland’s Winning Streak Ends

Allen 42, Longview 23

The Allen Eagles used their passing game to get a win over fellow Top 10 5A Longview 42-23. Allen's quartereback Alec Morris completed 25 of 35 for 365 yards and 5 TDs. His favorite target was wide receiver Andrew Rodriguez who finished with 11 receptions for 212 yards and two touchdowns. This was his second 200 yard reception game of this season. What is even more impressive is that Allen did all this without Missouri verbal commitment running back Jonathan Williams who missed his second consecutive game because of back spasms. The game marked as Longview's head coach John King's 100th game at Longview. The Lobos (2-1) loss was its largest margin of defeat at home since a 33-14 loss to Monroe Louisiana Ouachita in 2000. Last year Allen led 25-0 before the Lobos stormed back to win 28-25. Next week, Allen has a bye week before beginning district play vs. Plano in week #4. Longview goes into another great East Texas showdown against Lufkin next week.

Houston Memorial - 17 Pearland - 14

Houston Memorial scored with only 55 seconds remaining to defeat Pearland 17-14. It was their first win in eight tries against Pearland. Memorial's running back Justin “Boomer” White was the star on 29 carries for 135 yards. He also caught 4 passes for 74 yards. Pearland led 14-10 late in the game before Memorial got the ball at its 38 with 1:43 remaining. The Mustangs went the distance in only 4 plays with White running it in from 11 yards out. The win snapped Pearland's 18 game winning streak.
