Refugio Bobcats Approaching Single Season Scoring Record

The Refugio Bobcats have made a lot of noise this year with their high scoring offense and nothing will ring louder than if they break the Texas High School Football Single Season Scoring Record.  They could accomplish that as early as this week!

The team has been criticized for "running up the score" on opponents.  Head Coach, Jason Herring spoke with Lone Star Gridiron and answered critics by saying that, " ...we must continue to execute and take care of the football when we are on offense."  The idea is that if he takes his kids out of ball games when they are in the lead during the regular season, they won't be ready to play four quarters come playoff time.  It is as good an argument as has ever been made for keeping your foot on the throttle on offense.

Their scoring this season:

08/26    Rice Consolidated (Altair, TX)  26 - 7 W
09/02     @ Hallettsville (Hallettsville, TX) 64 - 21 W
09/09     @ Robstown (Robstown, TX) 72 - 0 W
09/23     @ Skidmore-Tynan (Skidmore, TX) 48 - 0 W
09/30     Kaufer (Riviera, TX) 82 - 6 W
10/07     Freer (Freer, TX) 91 - 6 W
10/14     @ Hebbronville (Hebbronville, TX) 69 - 13 W
10/21     Premont (Premont, TX) 73 - 0 W
10/28     @ Santa Gertrudis Academy (Kingsville, TX)  74 - 0 W
11/04     Banquete (Banquete, TX) 55 - 14 W
11/18     Three Rivers (Three Rivers, TX) 56 - 25 W
11/25     Poth (Poth, TX) 41 - 7 W
12/02     Sonora (Sonora, TX) 41 - 24 W

Their total for the season sits at 792 points, just 32 points shy of breaking the single season scoring record (824 by the Big Sandy Wildcats in 1975 when David Overstreet was carrying the ball and scored 56 TDs.)   The Bobcats face a tough opponent this week against Lexington.  The Eagles have been giving up less than that (17.2 ppg) and want not only to stop Refugio from advancing in the playoffs, but would love to be the team that causes them to come up short of the all-time record.
