Southlake Carroll Wins 8th All-Time Championship

Southlake Carroll - Class 5A DI Texas high school football state champ

Southlake Carroll 36, Fort Bend Hightower 29

The Southlake Carroll Dragons won their 8th all-time state championship with a fun to watch 36-29 victory over the Hurricanes from Fort Bend Hightower.   The Hurricanes fall to 0-2 in championship games since they began varsity play in 2000.

Early in the game, Carroll blocked an extra point and returned it for 2 points.  That 3 point swing made a difference all night on whether each team would go for 2 or not whenever they scored.   Hightower led this game 16-14 at halftime and 29-28 after 3 quarters.

The Dragons scored the only touchdown of the 4th quarter and converted on a 2 point conversion to take a 36-29 lead. They were able to stop Hightower and forced a punt.  They took over with 4:42 left in the game.  The Dragons then were able to make several first downs and run out the clock for the win.

Hurricane quarterback Bralon Addison could not be stopped all night and kept the Dragon defenders always a step behind.  Addison finished the night with 184 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns.  Dragon quarterback Kenny Hill was the games offensive player of the game with 19 completions on 24 attempts for 229 yards and 2 touchdowns.  He also ran for 116 yards and scored 2 more touchdowns.  Dragon linebacker Will Davis was the games defensive player of the game.  He came up with several key tackles on Addison late in the game.  Dragon wide receiver Sabian Holmes caught 11 passes for 138 yards and 1 touchdown.

42,896 were on hand to see the game.

For the record, Southlake Carroll quarterback Kenny Hill completed 243 passes on 386 attempts for 2,688 yards and 25 touchdowns on the year.  Wide receiver Sabian Holmes completed his season with 85 receptions for 1,312 yards and 14 touchdowns.  Carroll kicker Drew Brown connected on 2 field goals giving him 17 field goals on the season.
