Texas high school football scores big in 1st Round of 2012 NFL Draft

As usual, in any NFL Draft, Texas high school football makes a solid showing.  This season however, they absolutely rolled through the competition.   Five (5) former Texas high school football players were selected in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft, while the closest any other state came was three selections.

Draft Pick Pos Name Ht Wt College High School
1 QB Andrew Luck 6'4 234 Stanford Houston Stratford
2 QB Robert Griffin III 6'2 223 Baylor Copperas Cove
8 QB Ryan Tannehill 6'4 221 Texas A&M Big Spring
14 DT Michael Brockers 6'5 322 LSU Houston Chavez
20 WR Kendal Wright 5'10 196 Baylor Pittsburg

Evidence of the impact of the influence that 7 on 7 has had on the passing game in Texas continues to mount as Texas continues to dominate in the selection of quarterbacks.    Andrew Luck became the 11th #1 draft pick who played his high school ball in Texas and with three QBs from the Lone Star State selected in the top ten, no one can argue how strong the passing game is here.
