2012 LSG Texas High School Football Team Preview — Jewett Leon Cougars

2012 Schedule:

Coach: Keith Sitton (6 years) 24-38 record at Jewett Leon; 24-38 All-Time Coaching Record

Coaches Comments: We must replace a 3 yr starter at QB.  Tyler Morris- jr has the inside track. He was our JV QB and has been taking snaps for us in 7-7. We also lost the majority of our sec and will look for members of our JV sec and also Caleb Eagans and Cameron Carranza to take primary roles there. Hopefully, with the majority of our O line and front 7 returning, we will be more physical on both sides of the ball. Everyone but us is a returning playoff team in our district. We feel like we can compete well in this district. Mart should be the odds on favorite to repeat. If we stay healthy, we have a great opportunity to advance in the playoffs.

Returning Lettermen: 12

Returning Starters: Offense: 8 Defense: 7

Key Players:
* Drake Jones- 12 te/de 1st a/d te, 2nd a/d de. good player on both sides of the ball. good target in the pass game.
* Nathan Salazar- 12 g/lb. 2nd a/d g, 2nd a/d lb. rangy lb. coach on the field.
* Sagar Raja- 12 t. 2nd a/d t. best ol. had a great spring. expect to be very good next yr.
* John Scott- 12 dt. 2nd ad dt. good quickness down the line. very good in pursuit.
* Caleb Eagans-11 wb. most explosive athlete. must find ways to get him the ball
* Brock Brown- 11 te/de. very physical blocker, good finisher. technically sound on d. hard to run at.

Notes:
* Moving down to Class 1A

  • Mike Says:The Cougars will need their offense to step up after scoring only 145 points last year. Even though they are dropping down to 1A they will have it rough in a district with Mart. Expect the Cougars to go 4-6 or 5-5 for the season.
  • Chris Says: I think the Jewett Leon Cougars have a good opportunity to shine this season.  They face a monster of a tough schedule but have a lot of experience returning.  That, combined with the drop down to 1A should give them the opening Coach Sitton needs to get them to believe in themselves.  If they believe it, they will do well this year.  If they doubt, it could turn into a long season.
