Week Four:

Central Texas:
Cedar Park pulled the big upset in Class 4A knocking off #2 ranked Leander 14-10, although it was Timberwolves fifth straight win over their rivals. Junior RB Samaje Perine rushed for 297 yards to lead Hendrickson to a 35-28 win over Cedar Ridge. Lake Travis squeaked by Austin High 14-7, as Cavalier QB Baker Mayfield took advantage of a long weather delay to return from a knee injury to throw the game-winning pass in the fourth quarter. Westlake blew out Bowie 38-7. Connally shut out Cedar Creek 64-0 with Eddrick McDonald returning three kicks for touchdowns and rushing for a fourth. All three of McDonald’s returns (two punts/1 kickoff) occurred in the second quarter. Alamo Hts shut down Kyle Poeske and shut out Boerne Champion 24-0, using a combination of rain and strong running game. Madison’s Marquis Warford ran wild in a 49-14 win over Churchill. Warford had four touchdown runs over 66 yards and accumulated 358 yards on just 12 carries. Cibolo Steele’s Justin Stockton rushed for 183 yards and scored three times in just over a quarter as the Knights beat San Marcos 42-14. East Central junior Jonathan Jackson rushed for 269 yards in a 24-21 win over New Braunfels. Antonion RB Sterling Holmes followed up his Ford Player of the Week award from last week by rushing for 232 yards and three scores in a 27-6 win over Devine. Smithson Valley rolled past CC King 44-6 with Lawrence Mattison rushing for 168 yards and four td’s. Refugio remained unbeaten, crushing Riviera-Kaufer 76-0 with Travis Quintanilla throwing for 354 yards and four scores. Pleasanton QB Luke Walters passed for 228 yards and four touchdowns in a 47-0 shutout of Carrizo Springs.

West Texas:
El Paso High beat Irvin 51-28 as Bryant Wolf had 243 yards of total offense and five touchdowns including a 52 yard interception return. Lubbock Monterrey’s Travon Benton (junior) rushed for 371 yards and scored six times as Monterrey outscored Caprock 75-61. Frenship RB D’Maujeric Tucker rushed for 238 and four td’s as the Tigers outlasted Palo Duro 45-41. Junior Jarek Black rushed for 298 and three scores as Shallowater beat Idalou 20-15. Canadian QB Ben Arbuckle completed 31/43 for 388 yards in a 41-24 win over Bushland. Dee Paul rushed for 326 yards and five touchdowns (also passed for one) and Munday beat Holliday 49-7.

Saturday night, Stephenville edged Amarillo 35-14 in a matchup of ranked teams (Stephenville in Class 3A/Amarillo in 4A. Jacket QB Tyler Jones threw for 272 yards and hooked up with Jarrett Stidham for four touchdowns. Stidham and Brice Gunter combined for 14 catches for 189 yards and RB Witt Westbrook rushed for 133 yards for Stephenville.

DFW:
The headline game in DFW was between two top ten teams Allen and Coppell, both unbeaten. Coppell scored the first 13 points, then gave up 21 unanswered to Allen before forcing overtime. Allen scored first on a field goal, then Coppell won it on a 23 yard pass from Colby Mahon to Cameron Smith. Smith hauled in six passes for 129 yards and two tds for the Cowboys. Arlington Martin won a 38-28 shootout with Arlington High, as Texas commit Kyle Hicks rushed for 212 yards and four TDs’. A&M commit Kenny Hill passed for 273 yards and four tds as Southlake Carroll rolled over Keller Central 59-0. Skyline scored on seven of its first eight possessions and beat Jesuit 56-24. Euless Trinity turned to their big O-Line, rushing 63 times for 339 yards to beat Colleyville Heritage 31-16. Mesquite recovered five Longview fumbles in the first 20 minutes, jumping to a 23-0 lead and coasting past the Lobos 33-7. Lancaster edged Mansfield Legacy 28-20 with Joseph Paden rushing for 113 yards and three TD’s. Prosper beat Frisco Heritage 45-14 as Davis Webb (TX Tech commit) threw for 270 yards and six touchdowns, while Notre Dame commit Tori Hunter Jr caught three of those scoring tosses. Denton Ryan’s defense forced four turnovers and Tyrone Williams rushed for 193 yards and three touchdowns as the Raiders edged McKinney 35-28. McKinney Boyd beat Lewisville 42-14 with Bryan Driskell rushing for 274 yards and four scores. Sachse continued their hot start with a 50-8 beating of North Garland as QB Kent Myers completed 10/13 for 318 yards and six tds’. Wylie East outscored Denison 57-36 as QB Garrett McCain threw for 420 yards and six scores with three of the TD passes going to Baylor commit Marcel Ateman as part of his 222 yard night. Dallas Carter got two quick scores after turnovers and turned back Kimball 28-14 to win the Oak Cliff Super Bowl. In private school action, Garland Christian beat Flower Mound Coram Deo 59-21 with Garland QB Braxton Berry competing 11/15 passes for 435 yards and five touchdowns, while rushing for 108 and another score.

Houston:
Katy crushed Morton Ranch 62-24 despite Morton Ranch’s E.J. Achelus rushing for 195 yards on only 10 attempts. Spring Westfield beat Atascocita 44-17 as Emmit Raleigh rushed for 275 yards and three scores. Cy Ridge beat Cy Fair 31-20 with Renny Childs rushing for 251 yards and a td. Manvel beat Pasadena Memorial 35-14 as Shane McCarley threw for 345 yards, rushed for 41 and accounted for three touchdowns. In a real shootout Cy Ranch edged Langham Creek 64-63. Ranch RB Keith Ford (Oklahoma commit) rushed for 268 yards and Langham Creek QB Connor Feist threw for 537 yards and six touchdowns. Braeden West rushed for 296 yards and four touchdowns as Katy Seven Lakes beat Mayde Creek 56-33. LaMarque beat St. Pius 35-14 as Demun Mercer rushed for 180 yards and four TD’s. Cy Falls beat Jersey Village 60-33 with Bryce Peters rushing for 340 yards and two scores on just 15 carries. Nimitz bombed Hastings 40-7 with Dre’Vian Young rushing for 273 yards and 2 tds. Klein edged Spring 48-45, despite a 325 yard rushing/three touchdown night by Spring QB Darius Cambell-Lee.

East Texas:
Lufkin edged A&M Consolidated 71-68. Pack QB Tyler Stubblefield threw for 562 yards and 8 touchdowns, with 14 of those passes going to JaBryce Taylor for 259 yards. Xavier Jones rushed for 223 yards in a losing cause for Consol. Henderson won the rematch of the two most recent 3A state champs, beating Chapel Hill 24-6 with sophomore Randy Davis rushing for 158 yards. Mesquite Horn went on a 28 point second quarter rampage and pulled away from Tyler Lee 49-24. Whitehouse stopped Carthage’s two point attempt with 35 seconds to beat the Bulldogs 29-27. Patrick Mahomes completed 34/49 for 374 yards and rushed for 58 more. Kilgore’s defense forced five turnovers and shutout Spring Hill 41-0.
