PLAYOFFS –WEEK ONE:
Class 5A’s #1 Katy opened up their playoff run with a 77-7 whipping of Houston Westbury. LSU bound Adam Taylor rushed for 225 yards and four touchdowns. 4A’s #1 Pearland Dawson beat Richmond Foster 28-14 with James White rushing for 175 yards and 2 tds.

Ft. Bend Dulles edged Brazoswood 42-34 with Robert Harris completing 16/20 passes for 303 yards. Harris also rushed for 146 yards and accounted for five touchdowns on the night. Ft. Bend Travis upset Clear Springs 37-35 as QB Teagan Nehls threw for 276 yards and three scores. Cole Thomas passed for 237 yards and four scores to lead Cinco Ranch past Bellaire 69-13. Manvel ousted Pt. Arthur Memorial 49-37. Nederland knocked off Dayton 21-7 as Carson Raines passed for 274 yards and three touchdowns. The Woodlands scored twice in every quarter and sophomore Patrick Carr rushed for 207 yards as the Highlanders outscored Klein Collins 66-42. North Shore rushed for 430 yards and crushed Dobie 48-7. Lamar scored 29 points in the second half to rally past Seven Lakes 36-33. Victor Holmes scored three times to lead LaPorte past Pasadena Memorial 29-21 and will face Ft. Bend Bush , whose defense held Clear Creek to just 35 passing yards and Chad Davis picked off two passes in 24-10 win.

Unbeaten Summer Creek whipped Vidor 52-7 as Aaron Sharpe threw for 355 yards and five touchdowns and rushed for 108 and another score. Summer Creek will draw another unbeaten opponent next week in Georgetown. Angleton survived a shootout with Friendswood, edging the Mustangs 48-41, despite a 529 yard/6 touchdowns performance by Friendswood QB Jordan Wood.
In a real stunner, Pflugerville knocked off five time state 4A champion Lake Travis 23-20 in Class 5A, ending the Cavaliers 30 game playoff winning streak. Panther RB Aaron Dilworth slashed over from the two yard line with just 41 seconds remaining for the game winning touchdown, but not before LT QB Baker Mayfield hooked up with soph receiver Grant Foster for an apparent 51 yard touchdown pass with no time remaining, only to see Foster ruled out of bounds. Westlake defeated Pflugerville Hendrickson 33-13, despite a 203 yard rushing night by Samaje Perrine of the Hawks. Cedar Park, one of the favorites in Division II warmed up by crushing Austin Crockett 65-7. In the Division I bracket both Leander and Hays won to set up a Thanksgiving weekend showdown. Leander beat LBJ 35-13, while Hays beat SA Highlands 60-7, with Caleb Kimbro connecting with Granger Studdard for five touchdown passes. Elgin scored the other big Central Texas upset, knocking off Brenham 44-30, as QB Te’Rel Simmons totaled 388 yards of offense.
In San Antonio, Smithson Valley took advantage of three interceptions to turn back Reagan 21-14. Lawrence Mattison led the Rangers with 144 yards and three touchdowns. Brandeis pounded CC King 66-14 and will get a rematch against SV, which dealt them their only loss in non-district play. Madison scored twice within 30 seconds in the fourth quarter to beat Wagner 37-21. Steele pounded Marshall 49-17 pulling their starters at halftime. In Class 4A Brennan gained their first ever playoff win, remaining unbeaten with a 42-24 win over Boerne Champion. Champion QB Kyle Poeske wrapped up his Charger career by posting the best all time single season in San Antonio area passing with 3968 yards. Brackenridge gained their first playoff win since 1997 by upsetting Alamo Hts 25-24. Rajjohn Austin rushed for four touchdowns to key Judson past Churchill 34-20.
In 5A action, Southlake Carroll indicated their intentions to defend their Division I championship, spanking Arlington Martin 65-7, with QB Kenny Hill passing for 258 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing for 137 yards and two more. Skyline beat Plano 35-14, hoping for a semi-final matchup with the Dragons. Andrew Coleman’s 86 yard kickoff return for touchdowns broke open a close game. South Garland beat Rockwall Heath as DFW’s leading rusher Marquel McNac rushed for 209 and four scores. Mesquite remained unbeaten, beating Sachse 50-28. QB Alex Cooper threw for 295 yards and two scores while Sachse QB kent Myers threw for 424 yards and four scores. Allen crushed Richardson 63-14, scoring on nine of its first 10 possessions and rolling up over 600 yards of total offense. Desoto ripped Harker Hts 62-15 as Dontre Wilson scored five touchdowns. Coppell beat Irving MacArthur 31-7 with sophomore RB Charles West rushing for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Colleyville Heritage knocked out Lewisville Hebron 50-24 with Cody Thomas throwing for 409 yards and four scores.
In Class 4A, #3 Aledo throttled Quade Coward and his red hot Cleburne offense, beating the Yellowjackets 45-7. #7 Denton Guyer beat Saginaw 42-14 with QB Jerrod Heard totaling 325 yards and four touchdowns. Wylie East outscored Sulphur Springs 70-33 with QB Garret McClain completing 20/24 passes for 384 yards and seven touchdowns. Five of those touchdown passes went to MarcelAteman who hauled in 11 for the night for 197 yards. Frisco upset Highland Park, knocking out the Scotties in the first round. Max Steitler’s 28 yard catch and run with a screen pass with just 1:32 was the game winner.
John Tyler pounded Waxahachie 77-20 as QB Greg Ward threw for 352 yards and 4 tds. Whitehouse edged Ennis 42-32 as Patrick Mahomes threw for 330 yards and four touchdowns. Lufkin knocked out defending state Division II champion Spring Dekaney 35-29 as Tyler Stubblefield threw for 322 yards and three scores. Longview beat Rowlett 27-6 and the Lobo defense held an opponent to a touchdown or less for the fourth week in a row. Kilgore lost the yardage battle to Athens but took advantage of interceptions and long punt return to oust Athens 42-7.
Two Thursday night games featured teams playing in Class 3A for the first time. LaMarque, which as recently as two years ago played in the 4A Division II title game against Aledo, smacked Houston Furr 52-0, while Melissa, last year’s 2A Division I champion beat Wilmer Hutchins 53-29.
Stephenville, one of the favorites cruised by Burnet 56-27, as Tyler Jones threw for 398 yards and five touchdowns and rushed for 84 yards and another score. #2 Abilene Wylie beat Mountain View 49-21 while #5 Argyle shutout Bridgeport 45-0. West Orange Stark shutout Cleveland 57-0 with J’Marcus Rhodes hauling in six passes for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns. Stafford beat Houston Yates 42-20 as Adrian Seales rushed for 436 yards and five touchdowns. Andrews beat Bridgeport 49-28 as QB Jase Hammack threw for 365 yards and four touchdowns.
Canadian whacked Tulia 49-7, with junior QB Ben Arbuckle throwing for 330 yards and six scores
Thorndale’s defense picked off four passes and recovered four fumbles in a 54-22 win over Brackettville. Most of the top 10 had first round byes, a feature unique to Class 1A.
