PLAYOFFS RESULTS WEEK FOUR:

5A:

In an epic goalline stand, Desoto turned away Southlake’s Kenny Hill three times inside the three yard line on the last three plays of the game to knock out the Defending champions 49-45. Hill had
previously scored five touchdowns, including three in the first half as the Dragons had built an 18 point lead. Desmon White threw for 322 yards for Desoto, including the game winning 13 yard pass to Rickey Daniels midway in the fourth quarter. Desoto next takes on Allen, which cashed in on Skyline turnovers to defeat the Raiders 37-17. Skyline fumbled two consecutive kickoffs within a 90 second span in the second quarter and Allen converted both into ten points. Sophomore QB Kyler Murray had 122 yards rushing and 129 yards passing for the Eagles. Katy and Cibolo Steele warmed up for a classic throwdown next week, with dominating victories. Katy scored on all seven of its first half possessions and force five
turnovers before intermission in a 70-21 win over Cy Ranch. The Tigers used a dominating run game with three backs surpassing the century mark. Steele beat San Antonio Brandeis 28-12 with Justin
Stockton coming off a strep throat to rush for 202 yards on only 12 carries to pace the Knights. Both Katy and Steele are 15-0 and will face off in Waco next Saturday.

Houston Lamar won HISD’s first regional title, upsetting North Shore 28-7. Not since Vince Young led the 2001 Madison Marlins to the state semi-finals has HISD claimed a regional crown. Unbeaten Lamar’s
defense held the Mustangs scoreless until the final moments and junior QB Darrell Colbert accounted for three touchdowns. Austin Westlake’s defense recorded four interceptions with Alec Cohen’s pick
with 19 seconds remaining sealing a 42-35 win over Plano West. The Chaps have forced 15 turnovers in their four playoff wins. Westlake draws Cedar Hill next. The Longhorns converted three fourth down
gambles on the same drive in the third quarter and edged Waco Midway 49-34. Arkansas State commit Damion Hobbs accounted for 264 yards and four touchdowns for Cedar Hill. San Antonio O’Connor pulled out all the stops to beat San Antonio Madison 52-49. O’Connor executed two surprise onside kicks and a fake punt to upset the Mavericks and RB Marquis Warford, who rushed for 256 yard.

4A:

Lancaster’s defense came up with a goal line stop on the last play of the game to edge Mesquite Poteet 21-13. Defensive star Nick Harvey scored two offensive touchdowns for the Tigers who won this many games since 1941. Lancaster next draws Wichita Falls Rider, which easily dispatched Wolfforth Frenship 32-7 in Division II. John Tyler forced four turnovers and Greg Ward threw for 307 yards and accounted for three touchdowns as the Lions knocked out Frisco Centennial 38-24. Cedar Park punched a ticket to the semi-finals , rolling over unbeaten San Antonio Brennan 32-7. WR Ethan Fry had four catches over 40 yards apiece enroute to a 153 yard/two touchdown night. Georgetown remained unbeaten , rolling over Nederland 38-6 as the Eagle defense forced five turnovers and recorded four sacks. The Eagles will draw Leander Rouse in the semi-finals as the Raiders shutout Flour Bluff 34-0. Denton Guyer outscored Birdville 52-42 as the teams combined for 13 touchdowns. Guyer QB Jerrod Heard rushed for 167 yards and threw for 172. Manor upset unbeaten Ft. Bend Marshall 26-20, scoring the final ten points of the game.

3A:

El Campo gained a berth in next week’s Division I state title game, scoring 15 unanswered points in the
final four minutes to stun Carthage 29-25. The Ricebirds will face Stephenville, which ousted Kilgore 42-32. Kilgore had rallied from a 25 point deficit to close the gap to three points, but the Yellow Jackets prevailed behind a 293 yard passing/116 yard rushing performance by QB Tyler Jones.

In Division II, Gilmer rallied from a 17 point first half deficit to score 27 un answered points and beat district rival Henderson 41-34. QB Tanner Barr completed 21/31 passes and scored on a run, pass, and a reception for the Buckeyes. Navasota beat West Orange Stark 38-7 in a battle of unbeaten. The Rattlers forced four Mustang turnovers in the first half and Austin Collins scored four times before intermission to turn the game into a run a way. Bellville shutout Port Isabel 22-0.

2A:

In a huge shocker, East Bernard crushed heavy favorite Refugio 54-23. The Brahmas scored 41 unanswered points after halftime, intercepting Travis Quintanilla on three consecutive series, and TCU
commit Ty Slanina scored four times in the second half. Corsicana Mildred scored twice in two minutes in the second half to reach the Division II semi-finals with a a 45-35 win over Nocona. Iowa commit
Nic Shimonek threw for 212 yards and two scores. Daingerfield rallied in the second half to knock out New Boston 35-28. Sonora beat Colorado City 42-14 as Daniel Lopez accounted for three touchdowns. Cameron –Yoe doubled up Hallettsville 38-19.

1A:

Defending Division I champion Mason was knocked out by Shiner 21-3, while Defending Division II champ Tenaha advanced by edging Frost 34-30 as Chavis Gregory scored on a 17 yard run with just 5:18 remaining. Mart ran past Alto 62-42 as QB De’Narian Thomas rushed for 306 yards and seven touchdowns on just 15 carries. D’Marcus Cosby rushed for 102 yards for Mart. Stamford spotted Stratford a first quarter lead, but scored on four of its total six possessions in the game for a 27-2 win
over the Elks. Hagen Hutchinson accounted for 214 of Stamford’s 231 yards. Dee Paul rushed for 270 yards and four scores in the first half and Munday cruised by Albany 55-7. Unbeaten Wellington pounded Sudan 56-20 as Terry Gilbreath rushed for 264 yards and four scores. Italy held Goldthwaite to just 155 total yards and held on for a 14-3 win.

TAPPS:

Shiner St. Paul RB Adam Hollenbach ran for eight touchdowns and gained 308 yards on 42 carries to lead his team to a 56-43 win to claim the Division III state championship . St. Paul scored on all five first half possessions and kept the ball for 39 plays before intermission. McCaleb Taylor kicked a 26 yard field goal with four seconds to enable FW Nolan to edge TCA-Addison 48-45 for the Division I crown, despite a 322 yard, four touchdown passing performance by TCA’s Daniel Davidson. Midland Christian
edged Northland Christian 14-7 to win Division II

NEXT WEEKEND:

Central Texas hit the mother lode for semi-final football games next weekend with nine games being played in the greater Austin area and/or Waco.

Waco ISD and Floyd Casey host Fri/Sat games. Wall and Daingerfield will play at Waco ISD on Friday night, with the 5A matchup of Cedar Hill and Westlake on Saturday at 2 pm. Baylor’s Floyd Casey
Stadium will see Elysian Fields and East Bernard in a Friday night 2A clash, with the highly anticipated Katy vs. Cibolo Steele game on Saturday at 2 pm.

Friday night in Greater Austin finds Mart and Shiner in a 1A battle at the Palace in Round Rock, while Sonora and Corsicana Mildred hook up in Class 2A in Marble Falls. On Saturday its Manor and Cedar
Park in Georgetown while Georgetown’s Eagles go on the road to play Leander Rouse at Gupton Stadium—both games at 2:00. At 3:00, Houston Lamar faces off with San Antonio O’Connor at Burger Stadium.

Headline events elsewhere is the 3A Division I championship game Friday night at Cowbody’s Stadium in Arlington between Stephenville and El Campo and remaining 5A semifinal between Desoto and Allen,
Saturday night at SMU.
