  • Mike Says: The Chaparrals came very close last year to making it to their 8th all-time state championship game. This years squad may be even better with 14 starters returning. The defense led by LB's Hager & Hall (both JR's this year) gave up 126 pts in the first 4 games last year but turned things around and only gave i[ 131 in last 11. The offense will be explosive with QB Jordan Severt leading the way. They will be a DII team in the playoffs unless Austin High or Austin Anderson make it in. Look for them to go 8-2 or 9-1 in the regular season. They would go undefeated but they play a very difficult pre-district schedule against Cedar Park, Temple, A&M Consolidated and Cibolo Steele. Of course, once they get to district play they have the "Great Lake Showdown" against Austin Lake Travis who they have only beaten twice in the last 7 tries. Chaparrals are wanting a state championship and this is a team that can make a good run at it.
  • Chris Says: This is the team I have been talking about the most in the off-season.  This Westlake team has an opportunity to go down as one of their greatest.  Not only did I rank them waaay up in my preseason top 20 vote, but depending on who they matchup in the championship game, I think they could win it all this year.  That's right.  I did say IN the championship game because I feel they have the team to get there this year.
