Devin O’Sullivan Breaks State Record

DevinOSullivanIn the Eagles’ 27-24 loss to Centerville, Corsicana-Mildred senior Devin O’Sullivan kicked three extra-points to give him a state-record 229 for his career.

Also an all-district linebacker, O’Sullivan needed only two XPs to break Jarrod Martin’s 17-year old record of 227. He passed former Southlake Carroll and current New Orleans Saints kicker Garrett Hartley in last week’s 61-0 win over Como-Pickton.

After kicking just 46 extra-points as a freshman, O’Sullivan knocked through 83 as a sophomore and 92 as a junior. Each of those marks is among the top-25 single-season performances in state history.

If he maintains the pace he has set these last two years, O’Sullivan could hit the 300 mark by the time he graduates.

But will that be enough to stave off the competition? Refugio junior Adolfo Cordero is only 32 behind O’Sullivan, and he will be kicking plenty of extra points for superstar quarterback Travis Quintanilla.

Southlake Carroll’s Drew Brown and Allen’s Carlos Arochi are two other juniors within striking distance as well with 163 and 160 respectively.

For now, the record belongs to O’Sullivan as he continues to put distance between himself and one of the state’s oldest records. We congratulate him on his achievement as well as his teammates for making it possible.

O’Sullivan and the rest of the Eagles squad will host Frankston next week. Remember to follow the score throughout the game right here on Lone Star Gridiron.
