Texas high school footballBrownsville St. Joseph at Port Isabel: Port Isabel 49-18
Port Isabel remained unbeaten at 4-0 after using a powerful ground attack to turn away Brownsville St. Joseph, 49-18. Junior Jaime Gonzalez rushed for 136 yards on seven carries and three touchdowns, while Jacob Losoya matched Gonzalez with three scores of his own to go along with 100 yards on 11 carries. A defense led by under-the-radar linebacker Esteven Montelongo held St. Joseph to 71 rushing yards on 26 carries. Quarterback Adrian Gutierrez led St. Joseph with 265 total yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Edinburg Vela at Edinburg Economedes: Economedes 42-37
In Week 1, Edinburg Vela picked up its first win in school history and followed up the next week with the first winning streak in school history with a win over La Joya. Edinburg Economedes kyboshed the Vela momentum by erasing a 12-point halftime deficit to claim a 42-37 victory to move to 3-1 on the season. Quarterback Luis Alvarez threw for 195 yards for Economedes. Economedes burned 7:26 off the clock and iced the game with a 25-yard field goal from Jose Valle.

Corpus Christi Calallen at Corpus Christi Flour Bluff: Calallen 49-28
Corpus Christi Calallen moved to 3-0 on the season and set up an intriguing encounter with Port Lavaca Calhoun in Week 4 with a 49-28 victory over Corpus Christi Flour Bluff. Quarterback Derek Scheible only completed six of his 13 passing attempts, but three went for touchdowns to lead the way for Calallen. Scheible added 110 rushing yards and two scores, while junior Chris Price paced Calallen with 103 tough yards on the ground. Meanwhile, Calhoun steamrolled to a 47-0 victory over Austin Reagan to enter this week with a 4-0 mark.  Fullback Jakorious Williams bulldozed his way to 100 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Hunter Boerm and offensive lineman Bobby Limon, a transfer from Kyle Lehmann, boost the Calhoun ground attack.

Brownsville Rivera at Los Fresnos: Los Fresnos 38-7
Los Fresnos used a potent combination of quarterback Javier Cruz and wide receiver Brandon Colon to claim a 38-7 victory over Brownsville Rivera. Cruz threw for 181 yards and two touchdowns and added 82 rushing yards and another pair of scores to lead the way for Los Fresnos. Colon, a 6’4” wide out with Division I offers, grabbed five passes for 121 yards and a touchdown for Los Fresnos. Junior running back Eli Cruz only needed eight touches to amass 161 yards of total offense for the Falcons., who are coached by former Nebraska safety Clint Finley.

Weslaco at McAllen Memorial: Memorial 41-14
Weslaco got an early victory in District 31-5A with a 41-14 victory over McAllen Memorial. Weslaco flattened the Memorial defense with 416 rushing yards as running back Eric Gonzales led the way with 171 yards and three touchdowns. Major Free rushed for 95 yards and hauled in a pass for 47 yards on a fake punt, the only complete pass on the night for Weslaco.  Sophomore stat-stuffing sensation Trevor Speights rushed for 257 yards and two touchdowns to lead the way for Memorial. Speight has 733 yards and four touchdowns this season and already has more than 2,500 yards in his young career.
