Garland Sachse vs. Garland Lakeview Centennial: 71-56 Garland Sachse

The Garland Sachse offense continues to dominate their opponents averaging 53 points per game this year. Sachse had another dominating performance by quarterback Kent Myers who continues to shine with his arm, (19-28, 317 yards, 3 TDs) and with his legs (12 carries, 68 yards, 4 TDs).  Myers has now thrown for 1782 yards and 22 TDs this year and has yet to face a defense that can slow him down. Garland Lakeview Centennial kept this game interesting though only trailing 44-35 at halftime and quarterback Brent Davenport went blow for bow with Myers. Davenport shredded the Sachse defense in the air (16-29, 273 yards, 4TDs) and also scored twice from the ground. Lakeview Centennial did all they could to try to hang with this Sachse offense, but it looks to be near impossible to stop this juggernaut.

Denton Guyer vs. Denton: 66-7 Denton Guyer

Two schools that are only 8 miles away from each other squared off in this cross-town rivalry and Denton Guyer controlled this game from the start. Guyer had an offensive field day with 6 different players scoring a touchdown (Jerrod Heard, Anthony Taylor, David Haynes, DJ Breedlove, Dale Hodge, Alex Honey) quarterback Jerrod Heard led the team throwing for 106 yards and 3 touchdowns and running for 162 and 2 touchdowns. For the Guyer defense they held Denton to 21 yards rushing the entire game and also forced a fumble. The most lopsided number is punts. Denton punted 7 times, 5 in a row. Guyer's punter never saw the field on a fourth down the entire game. This game was over after halftime as Guyer improves to 2-0 in district, and Denton continues to struggle now 0-2 in district.

Garland vs. Garland Rowlett: 42-36 Garland

Part of our rivalry games this week Garland lead the series 14-3 (since 1996) going into this exciting game. The game went back and forth with no one team being able to gain an advantage. After Garland Rowlett running back Anthony Wagner (24, carries, 113 yards, 1 TD) scored on a 2 yard run with 1:20 left it looked as if Rowlett may have sealed the win. However, Garland took the football down the field 60 yards and scored on a 15 yard run by Joshua Jackson on an untimed down as an incredible tipped ball that looked to have saved a touchdown was negated because of a penalty, thus sending the game into overtime. Both teams scored in the first and third overtimes and even converted the required two-point conversions as well. In the fourth overtime after Garlands Luther Kirk (6-20, 60 yards, 1 INT, 16 carries, 145 yards, 2 TDs) scored from 1 yard out, now it was Rowlett’s turn to respond. However on a third down Rowlett quarterback Logan Bonner (22-42, 275 yards, 3 TDs, 3 INTs) threw his third interception of the game to Markeith Miller to seal the game for Garland.

Caddo Mills vs. Sunnyvale: 41-40 Caddo Mills

Another close game for Sunnyvale ended in heartbreak as they lost an overtime thriller after an amazing comeback. At the end of the third quarter Sunnyvale saw themselves down 34-21. However the arm of Sunnyvale quarterback Ryan Cottingame led the team to 13 unanswered points. Caddo Mills blocked the extra point to send the game into overtime. In overtime again Cottingame’s arm found Demetrius Gray for an 11 yard score, however extra point failed so Caddo Mills needed to score and kick the extra point to win, and that’s exactly what they did. Erik Richards scored from the 1 yard line and Andrew Taylor’s extra point gave Caddo Mills the win. While Caddo Mills won it won’t overshadow the game Sunnyvale quarterback Ryan Cottingame had. Cottingame threw for 320 yards and 6 touchdowns in the loss. However, for Caddo Mills the dual-threat running game of quarterback Erik Richards (who also went 9-17 123 yards 1 TD 1 INT) and running back David Chandler combined for 267 yards and 5 touchdowns on the ground and helped seal the victory. For Sunnyvale since starting out 4-0 they have now lost two straight in district. Caddo Mills now improves to 2-1 after starting off their district schedule with a win.

Arlington Lamar vs. Arlington: 24-14 Arlington Lamar

Another premium rivalry game this week took place in Arlington Cravens Center, Arlington Lamar leads the series 22-19-1 and were looking to expand on that lead as Arlington looked to close the gap. Going into the half tied at 14-14 neither team could solve each other’s running game. Lamar’s Cameron Smith (150 yards 2 TDs) scored on a 42 yard run, but Arlington’s Raymond Sheard (159 yards 1 TD) responded with a 54 yard run. In the third quarter Arlington Lamar scored 10 straight points and held on not allowing another score to Arlington. Arlington, on the other couldn’t break through the Lamar defense and were shut out the entire second half. These two teams seem to be headed in different directions. With this win Arlington Lamar is now 2-0 in district and has won 4 straight since their opening week loss to South Grand Prairie. For Arlington, however, since their opening week win over Flower Mound Marcus they have lost four in a row and start their district schedule with a loss as well.
