“Battle of the Ville” & Other Rivalries & Milestones

Texas high school football coaching and team milestones

Texas high school football milestonesWeek Seven is here and that means more rivalry games and milestones to go over.

For our rivalry games, we have a couple of long running ones. The first is Cuero vs. Yoakum where Cuero leads this all-time series 66-30-6. The second is Port Neches-Groves vs. Nederland. PNG leads this all-time series 46-35-6. This will be a sold out game this week with Nederland coming in with a 5-1 record and PNG sitting at 4-2.

In a couple of rivalry/milestone games. Fort Bend Hightower will be going for their 125th all-time win when they take on Fort Bend Elkins. Hightower leads this all-time series 10-3. In the other game, Allen's Head Coach Tom Westerberg will be coaching in his 125th game at Allen when they play Plano West. Allen leads the series vs. West 10-3 since 2000 including the last 8 wins in a row.

Some hotly contested rivalry games this week will be (5-1) Hurst Bell vs. (4-2) Euless Trinity. Who would have thought Hurst would have a better record than Trinity this late in the season. Trinity leads this all-time series 28-14-2 including the last 15 wins in a row. Also, (4-3) Mesquite takes on (6-0) North Mesquite. Mesquite leads this all-time series 24-18-1.

One of our most clicked on articles a few years ago was a game of the week we had between San Saba and Goldthwaite. More fans votes on the outcome of the game than there were people listing in both towns combined. Now, that is good ole Texas small town high school football. San Saba leads this series 34-26-2 since 1950.

In the "Cool Named Games" category, we have the "Battle Of The Axe" and the “Battle of the Ville”. Flower Mound Marcus leads the series 8-1 since 2004 vs. Lewisville in the "Battle Of The Axe," while Pflugerville and Pflugerville Hendrickson will square off in the “Battle of the Ville”.

For coaching milestones, two coaches will be going for #150. Brenham Head Coach Glen West will be trying for his 150th win @ Brenham while Port Isabel Head Coach Monty Stumbaugh will be coaching in his 150th all-time game.

For school milestones, two Frisco schools grab the spotlight. Frisco Wakeland will be going for their 50th all-time win while Frisco High plays for their 500th.
