Dallas Highland Park vs Wylie: 27-14 Highland Park

While Wylie has been through some tough games through the playoffs, Dallas Highland Park hasn’t had as much competition winning by an average of 33 points a game. Wylie would give Highland Park a tougher game than they expected. After Highland Park quarterback Brooks Burgin (13-31, 197 yards, TD, INT, rush TD) ran in for a 12-yard score and found receiver Campbell Brooks (2 rec, 23 yards, TD) for a 15-yard touchdown, Wylie quarterback Carsen Cook (16-38, 228 TD, INT) found Karson Kelly (6 rec, 121 yards, TD) for a 75-yard touchdown to keep the Pirates in the game. After forcing Highland Park to punt the Wylie offense began to move again, however Mitchell Kaufman intercepted a pass and returned it for 40-yard touchdown. Toward the end of the game Wylie was looking to get another stop and potentially tie the game. Cole Feigl (11 att, 119 yards, TD) wouldn’t let that happen taking a handoff 55 yards for a game-sealing touchdown with just under 3 minutes left in the game.

Desoto vs Euless Trinity: 48-41 Desoto

If there were two teams who met in the regular season that would see each other again in the playoffs it would be Desoto and Euless Trinity. In their regular season meeting Desoto had 54 points by halftime as Desmond White thrashed the Trinity secondary. This time Trinity was ready and kept up with the high flying Eagles. The Trinity secondary held Desmond White to 105 passing yards, one touchdown and forced two interceptions. The big numbers in this game were 498 for Desoto rushing yards to 493 rushing yards for Euless Trinity. White and Jaimon Peterson combined for 317 yards and two touchdown for Desoto, while also getting help Jatory Brown and Larry Nixon who provided 168 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground. The Euless Trinity running game was led by Isaac Ellsworth and Ja’Ron Wilson. Ellsworth had 306 yards rushing and provided a rushing touchdown. Wilson gave Trinity 140 yards and a touchdown as well. A controversial call in the 4th quarter when Desoto head coach Claude Mathis instructed his defense to allow Trinity to take the lead 41-40 with 2:31 left to play. The response from the Desoto offense was a 10-play drive that resulted in a 1-yard touchdown run by Larry Nixon that won the game Desoto pushing them into the state semifinals.

Argyle vs Gladewater: 42-8 Argyle

Argyle hadn’t had a close game all year until last week with a near loss to Gilmer, but that near defeat didn’t rattle them one bit as they came out and made everybody realize that they were one of the front runners to win state. Running back Nick Rolsten continued to tear defenses apart rushing for 130 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. He wasn’t the only one to have a good game receiver Ian Sadler had 5 receptions for 96 yards and two touchdowns to help increase their lead. Gladewater running back James Reese played well despite the loss he carried the ball 26 times for 172 yards and had the team’s only touchdown.
