Schulenburg's Tommy Bludau Retires

Schulenburg Shorthorns Head Coach Tommy Bludau will retire at the end of the school year. He has been a head coach since 1983 and has an all-time record of 240-113-4.

Coach Bludau has been with Schulenburg since 2007 leading the Shorthorns to a 51-24 record during that time. He has also been a head coach at Yorktown 1983-1991 (66-36-1), Columbus 1992-2000 (76-32-3) and Boerne 2001-2006 (47-21-0).

We asked coach what his best coaching memory was and he said it was the opportunity to coach three NFL players from the same small community of Columbus. (Aaron Schobel, Matt Schobel and Bo Schobel) All were tremendous athletes as well as classy individuals. It was a joy to watch them in the NFL.

With 240 career coaching wins, that puts him in the Top 30 in the category. He will be remembered as one of the all-time great coaches in Texas High School history. When asked about that, Coach Bludau said "I was at four quality programs over my 31 years of being a head coach. Its pretty simple - good players make good coaches. I coached many good athletes over the years and I can certainly attribute that to the 240 wins. Also, at each place, I surrounded myself with quality assistant coaches. This, in turn, was also the reason why my win total was as high as it was. Certainly, it is an honor to be mentioned among the Texas HS Football state's best. There are many coaches on that list that I have really respected over the years."
