A&M Consolidated — Copperas Cove — Can They Top Last Years Game?

Everyone will be watching this Friday night when A&M Consolidated travels to Copperas Cove for Week 1 of the 2014 football season. It will not be because both of these teams are very good. It will not be because they are such a big rivalry. A&M is 7-4 all-time vs. Copperas Cove. It will be because of what happened in last years game.

Copperas Cove came from behind and took a 41-38 lead with one second left in the contest. Up to that point, it had been a wild end of the game with the 2 schools combining for 38 points in the final 4 minutes of the game. The Bulldawgs had what they thought was a big win over a very good A&M Consolidated team. The kicked off and hit a short squib kick. The Tigers started running around, made a couple of laterals and turned in what was probably the play of the year with a return for a touchdown and a stunning 44-41 victory.

A&M Consolidated has won 5 of the last 6 contest and are ranked #4 in our Pre-Season Class 5A polls. We have them going all the way to the championship game. That would be the first time since 1992 that they have played in the big game. Copperas Cove plays in the larger 6A classification and are our #43 tem in the 6A Pre-Season polls. They were ranked #63 in the LSG 2014 Team Of The Decade rankings.
