Team Effort for Tigers in 63-20 win

When you hear about the Katy Tigers, you think RB, Rodney Anderson and yes, he is a HUGE part of the team this year.  At halftime of the Regional playoff game against Pearland Dawson, Anderson had already accounted for 231 yards and 5 TDs on just 13 carries.  He finished with 265 yards on 18 carries and 6 TDs.  But there is much more to the this Katy team (as there always is.)

LB, Collin Wilder

The first thing that struck me watching the match was how stifling Katy's defense was against Dawson.  The Eagles struggled to even get a first down because the Tigers absolutely smothered any rushing attempts (just 40 yards rushing by the time Katy pulled their starters.) Prior to Katy bringing in the 2nd and 3rd string players, Dawson had only managed 2 plays of any decent yardage.

It was LB, Collin Wilder (5'11" 185lb Junior) who was the most noticeable.  Wilder flew from one side of the field to the other running full-out on every single play.  Yes, everyone is supposed to run full speed on every play, but few players actually do it - Wilder does.  Whether he was returning punts or blowing through multiple blockers to tackle a runner in the backfield, Collin Wilder is an absolute beast and a gamer.

Another name sometimes overlooked is Katy's Junior QB, Garrett Doiron (5'10" 170lb Junior.)  Not a big a name quarterback like Andy Dalton a few years back, Doiron quietly goes about his business.  His workman-like performance may not have the flash, but it anchors one of the best Katy squads they have fielded in awhile.  In the first half, Doiron was a perfect 9 for 9 passing with 140 yards and 2 TDs.  By the time he sat to watch the end of the game, he finished 11 of 12 with 161 yards and the 2 TDs.

Receiver, Tony Mullins (5'8" 160lb Junior) hauled in 6 catches for 101 yards and 2 TDs.  Kyle Porter (5'10" 185lb Junior) ran for 88 yards on 16 carries as well.

Notice a trend?  All the names I have listed are Junior starters.  With the starters coming out for the third and fourth quarters, some of the other Tiger stars of the future made it clear that Katy will continue to be a force for years to come.

Coach Gary Joseph's Tigers are looking solid once again and they rolled past Pearland Dawson 63-20.  Next week, they will face the winner of the Manvel/Cy-Woods in the Quarterfinals.
