Cy-Fair Keeps Adding to History

Photo: Coach Ed Pustejovsky coaching his Bobcats

Over 130 Years of Texas High School Tradition

The Cypress Fairbanks Bobcats have a great history.  It was the first high school in Cy-Fair with an original graduating class (1935 ) of just three students.  The building that houses the school now was built in 1940 and replaced a series of wooden structures that dated back to 1884.

The modern Bobcats had another great season in 2014 finishing with a 9-4 record making it to the Regionals. They are now on a 5 year winning streak going 49-14 during that time. The amazing thing is that this comes after an 0-10 season in 2009. Their Head Coach, Ed Pustejovsky has been with Fairbanks since 2004. He has a 87-45 record there and ranks first in coaching wins at the school.

We sat down with Coach Pustejovsky with a few questions:

You were 49-14 over the last five seasons - to what do you attribute that success?

"Number one is our coaching staff. We have been together a long time and they do a tremendous job. Second is our players. They are committed to doing things right and working hard in all areas."

What do you expect from the team in 2015?

"I expect us to be competitive and have our young players step up and fill the voids as previous players have done.  Naturally, our returning letterman need to be our leaders."

What positions do you feel the biggest need for improvement moving forward?

"All areas - with our secondary being hit with graduation more than any other."

The Bobcat's 2015 team should be another good one even though they lost 10 all-district players to graduation.  They do bring back some talented players.  These five all-district athletes are among what appears to be another strong squad.

District 17-6A is always tough and Langham Creek, Cypress Falls, Cypress Woods and Cypress Ranch will provide the most competition. Once in the playoffs, Fairbanks along with their district mates will be well-tested. That showed in 2014 with Ranch making the championship game and Woods and Fairbanks making the Regionals.
