Sandifer Guides Bulldogs to Continued Success

Photo: Coach Hugh Sandifer (reporternews.com)

It was another great season for the Abilene Wylie Bulldogs. They finished the season with a 10-3 record and made it to the Regionals in the playoffs. The Bulldogs won a district that has teams like Big Spring and Stephenville in it. They have now played at least 12 games in a season for 17 consecutive years. They have had only 1 losing season (5-7 in 2010) in the past 21 seasons.

Head Coach Hugh Sandifer is the long time leader at this school. He has been with the Bulldogs since 1986 (29 years) and has an all-time coaching record there of 253-100-4. That puts him in the Top 30 for all-time coaching wins.

Wylie's 3 losses last year were to the state champions Argyle and twice to a very good Graham team. They had big wins over very excellent teams like Burnet, Liberty Hill, Vernon, Big Spring and Stephenville.

The Bulldogs only have 4 all-district players returning for next year so things will be tough but coach Sandifer seems to always find a way.
