The Class 4A DI Borger Bulldogs made the road trip to Levelland, Friday night in hopes of putting a stop to the Lobos’ four game win streak. But the Lobos, undefeated in district play, made it clear from the start that the Bulldogs weren’t going to end their reign.

Levelland QB Nick Gerber got the offense moving early with a completion to WR Michael Lopez for a 49 yard gain. After battling through Borger’s relentless red zone defense, RB Qualin Miller found the end zone for the Lobos. Jeffrey Elliott’s kick was good, and Levelland took the lead, 7-0 with 9:03 to play in the first quarter.

Forcing Borger to punt, Levelland soon had the ball back in their hands and they had quite the trick up their sleeve. With 6:16 to go in the first, Gerber completed a screen to Cesar Reyes who then showed off an arm of his own by stepping back and launching the ball down field to Tandon Jones for a 40 yard touchdown. Elliott added an extra point, and the Lobo’s lead extended to 14-0.

Early in the second quarter, Gerber connected with WR Kegan Dent to break into Bulldog territory again. Not long after, Miller rushed up the middle for his second touchdown of the night, and Elliott topped it off with the extra point to put the score at 21-0 with 10:27 to play in the first half.

Borger found some momentum with RB Jyuius Bumpus’s 59 yard kickoff return. Just a few plays later, Bumpus carried the Bulldog’s into Lobo territory for a first down, but the offensive rhythm wouldn’t last for long. With 8:31 to go in the half, Levelland’s Dominic Longoria snagged an interception right at the goal line and the Lobo’s took over.

Levelland’s first play back on offense, Gerber found one of his favorite targets, Jeffrey Elliott, for an immediate first down. Propelling the offense, Gerber then connected with Tandon Jones to break into the red zone and soon enough, Miller tore up the middle yet again for his third touchdown of the night. Elliott’s kick was of course spot on, and with 2:42 to play in the half, the Lobos easily had control of the game 28-0.

Struggling offensively, Borger was forced to punt on their next possession. With four seconds to play before the break, the Lobos turned to their kicker for a 23 yard field goal attempt and he didn’t let them down. Going in at the half, Levelland led Borger, 31-0.

After a scoreless third quarter, Borger sparked some excitement early in the fourth by finding their way up onto the score board. With much assistance from Jyuius Bumpus, the Bulldogs completed their first successful drive of the night when RB Anfernee Glover found the end zone for them. The Bulldogs fell just short of their two point conversion attempt, but with 6:36 to go in the game, they had their first points of the night up. The Lobos stretched to a five game win streak and remain undefeated in district play with the final score Friday night Levelland-31 Borger-6.

After the game, Levelland RB Qualin Miller explained the importance of this game for the Lobos.

“I feel like this win really just put us up another step,” he said, “But going into this off week we’ve still got to work every day to get better and prepare for Pampa.”

The Lobos have a bye October 30th, but will resume district play November 6th when they travel to Pampa to take on the Harvesters who are also undefeated in district play.

Miller shared his thoughts about the Lobo’s next challenge.

“Pampa is really good. They’re going to be tough, but we’ve just got to go in ready. We can’t underestimate them, but we’ve got a lot of weapons on our team,” he explained.
