Waskom Completes Perfect Season

NRG Stadium - In a game that began more than two hours after the scheduled start, the Waskom Wildcats won the Class 3A Division II championship with a 33-21 victory over the Franklin Lions. This was the Wildcats 2nd overall and 2nd consecutive championship having beaten Newton last year. This was Franklin's first ever championship game appearance.
The Lions from Franklin started the game off with a 56 yard drive ending in a Clayton Rosprim run for a touchdown to take a 7-0 lead. Franklin was noticeably frenetic in their hurry-up offense. Both offenses were able to move the ball but Waskom punted while Franklin turned the ball over twice in Waskom territory. The quarter ended with Waskom driving.
The Waskom Wildcats were able to cash in early in the 2nd quarter when quarterback Dylan Harkrider hit Kaleb Haynes from 23 yards out to tie the score at 7. After a Franklin punt, Waskom's running back Chan Amie scored on a 16 yard run to cap a 95 yard drive to take a 14-7 lead. Two interceptions would end the half. At the half, Amie already had 103 yard rushing.
After Waskom turned the ball over on downs to open the 2nd half, the teams traded scores. Franklin's Jared Pedraza scored on a 16 yard run and Waskom's Amie ran it in from 14 yards out to make it 21-14 Waskom. The Lions then got a 42 yard run from Rodrick Green to tie the game at 21. The 3rd quarter came to an end with the game still tied.
In the final quarter, the Wildcats recovered a fumble and turned that into a touchdown run by Dylan Harkriderj. They missed the 2 pt conversion giving them a 27-21 lead with 6:22 remaining. Franklin was forced to punt and put it on the Waskom 1 yard line. The Wildcats went on to take it 99 yards capped by a Aimee run to bring the final score to 33-21. The game finished after 1:00 a.m. but the players on both teams never appeared tired.
