Todd Berry Is New Executive Director of AFCA

WACO, TEXAS — Todd Berry will take over as executive director of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) in February 2016 after being voted into the position by the AFCA’s Board of Trustees at the 2016 AFCA Convention in San Antonio. Berry will be taking over the position from outgoing executive director Grant Teaff, who has been leading the Association since 1994.
“Today, I am humbled and honored. I have always been a proud member of the AFCA in large part to Grant Teaff and his staff,” Berry said. “When I was elected to the AFCA Board of Trustees in 2001, it only confirmed the role of the AFCA in protecting the game. I would like to thank the Board of Trustees for their diligence and commitment. I would also like to thank our outgoing executive director, coach Grant Teaff, for his 22 years of service and in growing our association to the unimaginable heights that it has reached. Our game is strong, and yet we will always face challenges ahead. I am excited about my role and will seek out and engage all those who will assist the AFCA to continue to be the ‘guardians of the game.’ Thirty-three years ago, I attended my first AFCA convention. It changed the way I viewed our profession and the AFCA. I worked toward those men on the dais and aspired to be one of them. Today is the culmination of dreams and hard work, and I will always be proud to be the executive director of the AFCA.”
Berry takes over as executive director of the American Football Coaches Association after a 33-year career in coaching, including several head-coaching jobs at the Football Bowl Subdivision and Football Championship Subdivision levels. (his stops include: Tennessee - graduate assistant/tight ends, Tulsa - graduate assistant, Oklahoma State - graduate assistant, UT at Martin - offensive coordinator and running backs coach, Mississippi State - wide receivers, Southeast Missouri State - offensive coordinator/quarterbacks, East Carolina - offensive coordinator/running backs, Illinois State - head coach, Army - head coach, Lousiana-Monroe - offensive coordinator, Miami - quarterbacks, UNLV - offensive coordinator/quarterbacks/assistant head coach, Lousiana-Monroe - head coach.
Berry’s association with the AFCA began in 1984 as a member. He has served on several committees such as the Luncheon Committee, the Program Committee, the Summer Manual Committee and the Hall of Fame Committee, just to name a few. In 2001, Berry was named to the AFCA’s Board of Trustees while serving as head coach at Army, and was re-elected to the Board in 2010 after he arrived at Louisiana-Monroe, rising up to the position of First Vice President in 2015. Berry is married to the former Lisa Grimes and the couple have two daughters, Jordan and Ryleigh Jo.
Berry becomes the fifth executive director of the AFCA. DeOrmond “Tuss” McLaughry was the first full-time executive director, serving the Association from 1960-65. He was followed by William “Bill” Murray (1966-81), Charles McClendon (1982-93) and Grant Teaff (1994-2015).
