Can I get a second?

NAVASOTA - In what is probably the most deafening silence to boom through the Texas high school football landscape, the motion to extend Navasota Athletic Director and Head Coach Lee Fedora's contract was made but answered with silence. Nobody seconded the motion.

Fedora's current contract goes through June 30, 2017, so he will remain the AD and Head Coach through the 2016 season.  Beyond that, things are in question.

So what does this mean?  It can't mean that the board or community is not pleased with his success.  Fedora has brought Navasota two state championships in football (2012 & 2014) and averaged 11 wins a season.  Fedora also won Lone Star Gridiron Coach of the Year honors in 2012 and 2014. In 10 seasons at the helm in Navasota, the Rattlers have gone 109-30. Previously, Fedora was Head Coach at Rogers and Waco Robinson. His overall record is 167-55-1.

I am guessing the lack of action by the board could be tied to something like a restructuring of the contract and/or other fiscal responsibilities of the district. If this is the case however, it seems someone from the board would have had a conversation with Fedora before the meeting. Fedora was completely caught off-guard by the move (or lack thereof.)

The motion to extend Fedora's contract will once again be made at the March 21st school board meeting and you can bet, it will be standing room only in support of a coach that has meant so much to not only the football program, but the lives of Navasota students. Regardless of how this bizarre story develops, you can bet Coach Fedora will be inundated with offers if Navasota declines to keep him past his current contract.
