District 26-5A is No Cake-Walk

The Antlers from Kerrville Tivy look ready to make it 10 consecutive 7+ win seasons next year. It would also be their 15th winning season in the last 16 years. Their only losing season was a 4-6 record in 2006. Last years team went 11-1 outscoring their opponents 651-279.

The 2016 Antler team will be another good one but they will surely miss the district’s Defensive Lineman MVP Taylor Fair, the district’s Defensive MVP Cameron Melcher and the district’s overall MVP QB Cade Dyal. Dyal broke a lot of records during his playing years with the Antlers. This years team will be led by 1st team all-district players like OL Larry Blundell, OL Pedro Ceballos, RB Hayden Schreckenbach and DB Ryan Robertson. 2nd team DB Preston Dimery will also be back.

Head Coach David Jones will be entering his 5th year with Tivy. He has a 36-14 record with the school and has an overall record of 74-27. They will be in 26-5A next year. Most of their district foes from last year will remain but newcomers to the district like Marble Falls and Dripping Springs will make this an even more exciting district.

Other school in District 26-5A:

Coach Jones commented on the new district lineup, "This district will be extremely tough, top to bottom.  We will never get a week off.  The winner will be a very tested group and will make a long run in the playoffs.  The playoff qualifiers could all make deep runs."

When we asked Jones what we could expect this season, he responded, "We will be very young on the defensive and offensive sides of the ball," which gives one reason for concern.

He also added, "The secondary should be very good along with a very talented group of OL and DL," which certainly bodes well for the Antlers of 2016.

What do you think? Can the Antlers keep their long winning streak alive? How will they replace a quarterback like Dyal? Can Jones take them to their first ever state championship game?

What do you have to say?
