Austin LBJ Thumps Anderson

The Class 6A Austin Anderson Trojans traveled to Nelson Field for Thursday's game against the Class 5A Austin LBJ Jaguars. The last time the two teams battled each other was back in 2003 when Anderson won 49-14.
During the first quarter of Thursday's game, Jaguars junior wide receiver Deon Collins took a screen pass for 42-yards that scored the Jaguars first touchdown. This gave LBJ a 7-0 lead. The 5-foot 7-inch Collins may be undersized but is one of the Jaguars fastest wide receivers.
"He might be the smallest guy, but he's our best football player when it comes to just knowing the game, playing the game and he plays with such great heart," says Jaguars coach Andrew Jackson.
Collins would continue to be a highlight reel for the Jags. In all he caught four passes for 105 yards and a score as well as carrying the ball four times for 92 yards and another score.
LBJ extended their lead to 14-0 before Anderson seemed to wake up. In the second quarter, Anderson senior quarter back Trey Lundquist completed a pass to sophomore Jeremiah Byers for a touchdown. The extra-point was no good. The score cut the Jaguar lead to 14-6.
The challenge seemed to spark Austin LBJ into fast forward mode as they played like a team possessed en-route to a halftime 31-13 advantage.
As the Trojans of Anderson came back from the half, they too responded and the game was on!
Austin Anderson quarter back Lundquist handed the ball over to sophomore runner back Coy Fullmer who ran down the side and scored. The kick was good, which left the score 31-20 in the third quarter. Fullmer finished the night with 19 rushes for 140 yards and two second-half touchdowns.
Fullmer was just not enough for Anderson who would seem to edge closer only to be answered back with another LBJ score. When it was over, Austin LBJ defeated Austin Anderson by the final score of 48-30.
"It was a tough loss, offense came off slow, but we carried into the second half, we're just going to carry on momentum from this second half into next weeks game against Austin High," says Trojan wide receiver James Baran.
Austin Anderson (0-3) does indeed face the Austin High Maroons (0-2) next week and Austin LBJ (2-1) will take on Manor (1-1) on the road.
