Graham wins 2017 Texas State 7on7 Division II Championship

LSG Covers 7 on 7 State Tourney for 20th Time

The Graham Steers completed a great run through the competition at the 2017 Texas State 7on7 Division II Championship with a 27-20 victory over Abilene Wylie. The Steers knocked off El Campo, Alpine, Kaufman (last year's champ) and Navasota prior to meeting Abilene Wylie. Wylie downed Somerset, Boerne, Pleasant Grove and China Spring before falling to the Steers.

Notes:  In pool play, there were 5 undefeated teams (3-0) Fairfield, Pleasant Grove, San Augustine, China Spring, Argyle.

Wimberley was in the tightest matches as they advanced to the second round of the championship bracket after winning three games by a single point (including and overtime win against Cameron Yoe.) They eventually fell to Kaufman.

Cuero looked solid winning championship bracket games against Carthage and Brownwood before falling to Navasota.

China Spring was 6-0 going into their game against Abilene Wylie. Wylie got the win by intercepting a CS pass in overtime to take the win.

San Augustine almost had the heartbreak of the tournament against Lexington. Up 35-28 and with  the ball, they only needed to run out the clock (ie, not throw the ball or throw out of bounds) but instead tossed a pick six that made the game 35-34. Lexington lined up for the 1 point conversion, but it fell short and San Augustine advanced.

From top to bottom, there were great plays, fantastic finishes and dazzling shows of athleticism. Even though we have been covering the tourney since its inception, somehow it keeps getting better!
