Mason Sticks with Puncher Family

Champs Make Coaching Change

The Mason Punchers won the Class 2A Division I State Championship last year with a big win over New Deal. This was their 3rd Championship game since 2011. They won the title in 2011 against Stanford and was the Runner up in 2014 against Canadian.

The big news at Mason for this next season is that they will have a new Head Coach. Kade Burns will be the schools new principal. He will be replaced by Michael McLeod.

Coach Burns was the Puncher Head Coach since 2011. He had a coaching record of 100-9-0 in those 8 season. Before that, he was the Head Coach at Thorndale where he went 15-6 during his 2 seasons there. He was also and assistant at Monahans.

His dad Melvin was the Punchers Head Coach (1971-1977,1984-1988) compiling a 101-32-1. Kade is a graduate of Mason. His 115-15-0 all-time coaching record puts him in tie for 411th place all-time.

Michael McLeod was the Puncher Defensive Coordinator for the past 6 years. He played College ball at Angelo State and is a Mason graduate. This will be his first Head Coaching job.
