Mike Says:  This game features the best defenses in the district. Wagner really made people stand up and notice when they defeated Judson a few weeks ago. Steele has been featured twice in our games of the week and they have come out winners both times. The Knights quarterback Tommy Armstrong keeps things exciting on the offensives side with 857 passing yards, 700 rushing yards and 22 total touchdowns. Their defense features LB Devere Carrington (83 tackles), LB Ross Luensmann (80 tackles), DL Eric Maus (4.5 sacks 29 tackles) and DB Erik Huhn (6 INTs 38 tackles). This one is all Steele. The KNIGHTS win 34-10!!!

Chris Says: Okay, the only real question here is… do we call the Thunderbirds “San Antonio” Wagner or “Converse” Wagner?  I’m going to go with Converse just because it sounds cooler in my opinion.   A couple years back, nobody would have believe this was going to be a good matchup, but what a difference a couple years makes.  Converse Wagner is a much improved team and even though Steele is still sporting a perfect record, they have shown some signs of being human.  Are they human enough to lose to Wagner?  I’m not so sure.  While, I don’t think this will be a blowout, I do think the Cibolo Steele KNIGHTS take it 24-17!!!

Lockhart (2-4) (0-2) 149 163
Kyle Lehman (4-3) (0-3) 193 125

Mike Says: Alamo Heights faced a tough pre-district schedule full of 5A teams. They are undefeated in district play but they only won their last 2 games by a total of 7 points. Smithson Valley has been very impressive this year with wins over Odessa Permian, San Antonio Wagner and New Braunfels Canyon. The Mules are not as strong as they have been in the past. They are always well coached and will play till the end but the Rangers are too good. The RANGERS win 28-21!!!

Chris Says: Smithson Valley has been a juggernaut for years.  San Antonio Alamo Heights has been an on-again, off-again power for the past decade.    When I sat down with Head Coach Larry Hill, he mentioned this game as an important one in the district and the Rangers will have to take it serious to reach their goal of another district title.  The Mules are not going to roll over and hand it to them, but QB Parker Mckenzie and the Smithson Valley RANGERS will get the win 27-19!!!

Fredericksburg (1-5) (0-1) 154 232
Bandera (1-5) (0-1) 146 296

Mike Says: Canyon Lake really caught our eyes earlier in the season, when they defeated Sealy at home. They have a very talented team
with a strong running game and a good defense. Their defense is led by LB Jeremy Best (95 tackles), LB Matt Noyola (69 tackles) and DL Alex Kemp (7 sacks 42 tackles). Their running game features a good one in RB Zach Henshaw (1302 yards 17 TDs). He follows the big guys up front like OL Jaazaniah McNair and OL Logan Felch. With all that, you think that I am going to pick Canyon Lake right. Not so, this Wimberley team is too good. They are our prediction to make it to the Division II championship game. Quarterback Brady Lambert heads up the offense while DB Nick Alana and DL Colton Fonville lead the defense. This will be a great challenge for the Texans. The TEXANS win 35-21!!!

Chris Says: There are a lot of folks saying that this is the year for Canyon Lake. You know what? With Zach Henshaw running the ball, that may be true. There are also a lot of people saying that before Dennis Smith went down with an injury, this was Wimberley’s year. With Smith coming back in two weeks, that may be true also.  Hopefully there won’t need to be someone with a degree from one of the sports medicine schools standing by. What you have here are two good teams about to knock heads with a combined record of 11-0… something has to give. In the end, the difference maker is going to Brennen Blakemore the WR for Wimberley. Canyon Lake does not have an answer for him. Sure, there will be a ton of points scored and the win very well could go to the team that has the ball last. Wimberley however does their folding when they are up by a lot – not in a tight game. The TEXANS come away with an exciting win 42-41!!!!
