Mike Says: Coldspring will feature and great runner in Sherman Gilbert (1,324 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns) and a great defense. Their defense which has only given up 44 points all year long is led by LB Kedrick Harrison (76 tackles), DL Chance Andries (76 tackles) and DL Trey Cooper(41 tackles 4 sacks). Huffman features quarterback Preston Townley (2,290 passing yards and 29 touchdowns) and wide receiver Kade Hardy (44-766 11 touchdowns) on offense. Their defense is headed up by LB Austin Weber (81 tackles), DB Austin Williams (77 tackles) and DL Duane Mena (9.5 sacks 52 tackles). These two are by far the best two teams in the district. Coldspring is on a level all their own though. The TROJANS win 34-10!!!
Chris Says: I am going to save you a lot of reading. Coldspring-Oakhurst TROJANS win 45-20!!!

Mike Says: This will be Gilmer’s 4th Game Of The Week. They are 3-0 so far. Henderson is 0-1 in Games Of The Week falling to Carthage last week. This is another great East Texas showdown. Gilmer’s quarterback Luke Turner leads the team in passing and rushing. Their defense is led by LB Josh Walker and DB Tanner Barr. The BUCKEYES win 34-27!!!
Chris Says: Take away the Carthage game and these two teams are doing almost identical. In fact, Henderson did a better job handling both Liberty-Eylau and Longview Spring Hill. Gilmer did a much better job against Carthage and has also knocked off Daingerfield, so the Buckeyes are no stranger to performing in big games. It doesn’t get any bigger in the regular season than this game which will likely decide the District 16-3A title. In our Gilmer Buckeye’s Midseason Report Card coach Jeff Traylor talked about his team being “a pretty normal team.” Normal for Gilmer is a far cry better than most. I have also heard that Jordan Traylor will be taking over at QB this week due to injury. I expect the Henderson Lions to have a good showing, but the Gilmer BUCKEYES take it 31-21!!!

2008: La Porte 56, Port Arthur Memorial 28
2009: La Porte 42, Port Arthur Memorial 21
The winner of this game will be in the playoffs and will be the district champion. Both are likely to make the playoffs and both will probably go Division II.

Mike Says: These are two pretty surprising teams. Who would have thought that both of them would have victories over Galena Park North Shore at this time. The Houston area is buzzing over this game but I don’t think they are the best in the Houston area. It will be a good one though. Port Arthur Memorial will get revenge for all of those losses to La Porte. The TITANS win 28-21!!!
Chris Says: This is a tough one to handicap. Both teams are taking care of business and both teams are eeking out some surprisingly close games. In the end, it will be the offense of Port Arthur Memorial that will be the difference as the TITANS win 34-21!!!
