Mike Says: Carthage has not had a good time when we pick them as a Game Of The Week. They lost to Lindale 21-33 and Tyler Chapel Hill 20-21. On the other hand, Gilmer has thrived during our Games Of The Week with wins over Tatum 34-0 and Daingerfield 56-31. Hmmmm…who do I pick…the 0-2 team or the 2-0 team? Gilmer’s offense is led by do everything QB Luke Turner (1116 passing, 584 rushing). Their defense is solid behind LB Josh Walker (55 tackles, 5 sacks), LB Colton Hill (47 tackles), LB Adam Witcher (43 tackles) and DB Tanner Barr (13 tackles, 4 INTs). The Buckeyes win 34-21!!!

Chris Says: They days of Carthage rolling all over the state are gone…. uh, graduated.  They are still a strong team and a good program.  They are just not the team they were en route to their championship runs.  Gilmer isn’t the same powerhouse they have been in recent years either.  As we learned in our Midseason Report Card on Gilmer, they graduated 28 starters and are having a lot of kids learning as they go along.  Under Coach Jeff Traylor however, they are learning fast.  The BUCKEYES are rolling and will win this one 28-23!!!

Week 6: Great Games & Great Finishes

Keller Central 21, Denton Guyer 14
Central’s Zack Sanchez scored on receptions of 81 and 66 yards and also returned an interception 85 yards for another touchdown. Guyer won this game 47-20 last year. The win guaranteed Central its first winning season. They began varsity play in 2004.

Mathis 21, Aransas Pass 14
Mathis led this one 21-0 entering the 4th quarter in this battle of unbeaten teams. Aransas Pass made it interesting but could not get that last touchdown to tie it up.

Dallas Highland Park 24, Wylie 21
Dallas Highland Park stormed back from a 21-0 first half Wylie lead to get head coach Randy Allen his 299th all-time victory. The Scots last scored their go ahead TD with only 20 seconds left in the game. Dallas Highland Park wide receiver William Morris had 4 catches for 74 yards in the game. For the season his totals are 38 receptions for 558 yards and 10 TDs. Highland Park has now won all 14 meetings over Wylie.

Carthage 23, Pittsburg 16 OT
Carthage kicked a 23 field goal to tie the game and send it to overtime. From there Carthage scored first and then held Pittsburg. Carthage has now won all 4 games against Pittsburg since 2006.

Milano 14, Burton 13
Burton trailed this game 14-0 entering the 4th quarter. Burton came back and scored with 1:53 remaining to make it 14-13. They lined up for an extra point but it was a fake. The fake came up 1 yard short and Milano got the victory.

San Antonio Wagner 20, Converse Judson 10
Wanger was able to pull off this big upset in front of 8000 fans. This was Wagners 2nd victory over Judson since they began varsity play in 2006.

#1 Tyler Chapel Hill Bulldogs (4-0) @ #10 Lindale Eagles (4-0)

Tyler Chapel Hill @ Lindale

Lindale leads the series 6-5 since 1980. In recent games, Lindale won in 2004 and 2005 while Tyler Chapel Hill won big last year. Both of these teams won LSG Games Of The Week so far this year. Both of them beat Carthage!!

Game Series Since 1980:
1980: Lindale 7, Tyler Chapel Hill 6
1981: Lindale 14, Tyler Chapel Hill 10
1988: Tyler Chapel Hill 19, Lindale 16
1989: Tyler Chapel Hill 21, Lindale 7
1994: Lindale 28, Tyler Chapel Hill 9
1995: Tyler Chapel Hill 33, Lindale 7
1996: Tyler Chapel Hill 55, Lindale 7
1997: Lindale 17, Tyler Chapel Hill 16
2004: Lindale 30, Tyler Chapel Hill 28
2005: Lindale 45, Tyler Chapel Hill 22
2010: Tyler Chapel Hill 41, Lindale 17

Tyler Chapel Hill 2011 Schedule
08/26/11 @ Palestine Westwood W 74-23
09/01/11 Whitehouse W 59-49
09/09/11 @ Carthage W 21-20
09/16/11 Hallsville W 29-22

Lindale 2011 Schedule
08/26/11 @ Longview Spring Hill W 56-7
09/02/11 Carthage W 33-21
09/09/11 @ Hallsville W 25-12
09/16/11 @ Kaufman W 49-13

Mike Says: Tyler Chapel Hill is our #1 team in Class 3A and have a very balanced attack rushing for 932 yards and passing for 1104. The problem is that QB Avery Saenz will be out 8-10 weeks with an ankle injury. He had thrown for 10 TDs in first 2 games of the season before getting hurt early in the Carthage game. The Bulldogs did hold on for the win though and then beat 4A Hallsville last week without him. The problem is that Lindale is not Hallsville in fact they beat Hallsville in an away game by 13. I made the mistake of not picking Lindale last time in a game of the week and I will not do it twice. We do have Tyler Chapel Hill #1 and they will be until they lose but the loss of Saenz is too much. The EAGLES win 28-17!!

Chris Says:  Even with Saenz in the game for Tyler Chapel Hill, this is a classic trip-up game for the Bulldogs.  Look at their two opponents in common and you see why I am still high on Lindale.  They did me right in their second game when they surprised everyone in the state (but me) and took out Carthage.  I would say that this will make believers out of the rest of the state, but they will just blame it on the loss of Saenz.  Either way, Lindale wins it 25-20!!

Who do you think wins it?  VOTE in our Facebook poll!
