LSG's 2010 Games Of The Year #6 – 10

Each year, Lone Star Gridiron reviews thousands of great games and picks out the best of the best from the previous season. This year, we had over 200 games in the running for those top 25 spots so narrowing it down was tougher than ever. It will long be debated which ones were better than others and which games should have made the list that didn’t. What is certain, however, is that this IS Texas high school football, and it doesn’t get any better than this!

This is the forth installment, counting down the top 25 games of 2010 with #’s 10 through 6.

# 10 Austin High 66, Belton 63 (OT)

This game featured over 1000 yards of total offense and had 13 different players scoring touchdowns.  Belton led 42-28 at half, but the second half was all Austin High.  Austin High sent the game into overtime with a 1 yard run as time expired to make the score 63-63 at the end of regulation.  In overtime, the Maroons were able to get an interception on Belton’s first possession.  They then took over and kicked a short field goal to end this 4 hour marathon. Belton quarterback David Ash had eight touchdowns, six passing and two rushing. Austin QB Jordan Jaquez scored seven touchdowns, six passing. Austin star receiver Cayleb Jones caught 13 balls for 178 yards and three scores.

#9 Pearland 38, Katy 35

Pearland defeated Katy in the quarterfinals at Rice Stadium on a last minute TD pass in front of 41,368 fans. In this battle of unbeatens, Katy scored two 4th quarter touchdowns to take a 35-31 lead with 3:12 remaining. The Oilers took over the ball and drove to the Katy 44 where QB Trey Anderson hit WR Sam Ukwuachu for a touchdown pass down the sideline with just 47 seconds remaining. Katy tried a last second comeback but Pearland’s star running back Dustin Garrison intercepted a Katy pass with just 6 seconds left to seal the victory. Pearland’s regular season had featured last minute victories over Houston Memorial, Clear Springs and Brazoswood.

#8 The Woodlands 46, Fort Bend Hightower 39 (2 OT)

The Woodlands held off Fort Bend Hightower with a 46-39 double OT win that featured 4 lead changes. The Woodlands had a 32-24 lead with 1:14 remaining before Hightower quarterback Bralon Addison took over. He completed a 59 yard touchdown pass on a busted play to make the score 32-30. Hightower then added the two point conversion with 13 seconds remaining in regulation that sent the game into OT. The teams traded touchdowns in the first overtime with The Woodlands scoring on a 4th and 14 for their TD.   The Woodlands got the first possession in the 2nd OT and were able to get it in for another TD. The Highlanders then stopped the Hurricanes 1 yard short of a first down to secure the victory. Bralon Addison ended the game with 165 rushing yards, 167 passing yards and four total touchdowns. The Woodlands quarterback Joseph Schneider threw for 214 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 184 yards and two more scores.

#7 Daingerfield 33 Cameron Yoe 27

What a great championship game this was. Cameron Yoe trailed by 14 at halftime but tied the game at 27-27 with 47 seconds left on a 21-yard touchdown pass. Daingerfield got the ball one last time which set up a 69-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tyler Boyd to receiver Keyarris Garrett with 26 seconds left. Daingerfield went on to win their third consecutive state title and their fifth overall. Boyd who was voted the games offensive MVP, passed for 291 yards, ran for 156 yards and scored four touchdowns.

#6 Colleyville Heritage 58, Duncanville 52

Colleyville Heritage overcame a 14 point deficit very late in the game and then went on to defeat Duncanville 58-52 in triple overtime. Duncanville led 38-24 after scoring a TD with 49 seconds left but Heritage returned the kickoff back for a TD to make it 38-31. They were than able to convert on an onside kick. From there they scored with 3.6 seconds left to send the game into OT. Colleyville intercepted a pass at the goal line and then scored when they got the ball in the 3rd overtime. This all happened on opening night at the North Texas Football Classic.
