Idalou won their 475 all-time game during their 35-20 win over Denver City
2012 LSG Team Preview — Idalou Wildcats
2012 LSG Texas High School Football Team Preview — Idalou Wildcats
Team: Idalou Wildcats (2-2A Division I)
Enrollment: 309 — smallest in the district out of 6 schools
2012 Schedule:
@ Lubbock Cooper
@ Seminole
Littlefield
Friona
@ Shallowater
Brownfield **
Denver City **
@ Slaton **
Kermit **
@ Lamesa **
Coach: Don Long (1 year) 10-2; 10-2 all-time coaching record
Coaches Comments: Season Outlook: inexperienced, tough non conference schedule, will have to stay healthy. District Outlook: Brownfield and Lamesa dropping down from 3A, and Denver City with great skill people.
Returning Lettermen: 14
Returning Starters: Offense: 2 Defense: 2
Key Players:
* QB/DB Seth Reagan – Safety- 1st Team All-District DB All south plains, will start at QB this year also 48 tackles
* OL Derick Spargo – Center- 3 year starter
* FB/LB Tylo Kirkpatrick – FB and LB- only 2-way starter returning 68 tackles
* RB Jesse Flores
* RB/DB Cooper Downer
Notes:
* Will be moving from Division II where they won the 2010 state championship up to Division I
- Mike Says: The Wildcats go from being one of the big fish in the pond to one of the small fish moving from DII to DI. Denver City will provide them with a challenge for the district title but they should still win it even with only 4 starters coming back from last year. Seth Reagan will be a key contributor on both sides of the ball. The playoffs will be tough with Littlefield, Eastland, Wall and Muleshoe in the region. Expect them to go 7-3 or 8-2 in the regular season and a trip to the Regionals.
- Chris Says: Idalou has a lot going against them this season. They are the smallest school in the district. They made the move up from Division II to Division I ball. Two of their district opponents dropped down from Class 3A. The Wildcats only bring back 2 starters on each side of the ball – just three kids. You would think that I would suggest a “rebuilding” year for Idalou, but I just can’t. They may not take district, but this program has a strong tradition and they WILL make the playoffs for the 14th consecutive time. Once in the postseason, anything can happen and a team like the Wildcats can surprise a few people.

Notes:
The Wildcats have 15 starters returning from a young 2009 team that finished 7-4. They will be young again this year but they are now Juniors and will look to make it 5 of 6 years to have at least 10 wins in a season. The Wildcats are one of the favorites to win it all in the newly created Division II of Class 2A. Expect them to go 8-2 or 9-1 in the regular season and make it to at least the quarterfinals. A game they have circled early in the season is vs. Littlefield which is one of the best teams in Class 2A Division I.
