2012 Coaching Change: Converse Judson Rockets

Old Head Coach: Jim Rackley — Retiring after leading the Rockets over the last 11 years to a 101-37 record. His 2002 team won the class 5A Division I state championship. They were state runner ups in 2005 and 2007. Coach Rackley started his career as an assistant at Mathis. His only other UIL head coaching job was at San Antonio Southwest where he led the Dragons to a 27-24 record from 1988-1992. He finishes with an overall 128-61 UIL coaching record. Coach Rackley ranks #269 on the all-time coaching wins list/.

New Head Coach: Mark Smith — From Kerrville Tivy where he led the Antlers to a 93-33-0 record over the last 10 years. coach Smith was the defensive coordinator at Tivy 3 years before taking over as head coach.

Team News: The Rockets have had 35 consecutive winning seasons.

Jim Rackley Resigns at Converse Judson

Converse Judsons head coach Jim Rackley will be retiring. He has been the head coach at Judson since 2001. During that time he led the Rockets to an overall 101-37 record and never had a losing season. His 2002 Judson team won the class 5A Division I state championship. They were state runner ups in 2005 and 2007.

2011 Coaching Change: Mathis Pirates

Old Head Coach: Paul Kilby — Leaving for 4A Lockhart. He led the Pirates to a 18-7 record over the last two seasons.

New Head Coach: Ronnie Molina — From 1A McCamey where he led the Badgers to a 7-16-0 record over the last 2 years. He has also been an assistant coach at Odessa Permian, Eldorado, Ballinger, Kermit and San Angelo Central.

Team News: The Pirates have had 4 consecutive non-losing seasons.

2011 Coaching Change: Lockhart Lions

Old Head Coach: Robin Rapp — Leaving after leading the Lions to a 6-15 record over the last two seasons.

New Head Coach: Paul Kilby — From 3A Mathis where he led the Pirates to a 18-7 record over the last two seasons.

Team News: The Lions have had only 1 winning season during the last 9 years (8-4 in 2008).

Coaching Changes — Goliad

Goliad has hired Mark Cunningham to be their next head coach. Cunningham will replace Greg Althof who resigned from the position.

Althof has been the head coach at Goliad for four seasons and had an overall record of 10-31 that included one playoff appearance. The Tigers went 1-9 last season. Altholf has also coached at Ingram Tom Moore, Rankin, Nacona, Alpine and Hamlin.

Cunningham comes over after being the defensive coordinator at China Spring. He began his 29 year coaching career as an assistant at Giddings and A&M Consolidated. He had been a head coach at Pittsburg (1995-1998 (26-16-1)), Alvarado (1999-2000 (17-8)), Glen Rose (2002-2005 (27-17)) and Fort Worth Brewer (2006-2007 (2-18)). His career record is currently at 72-59-1.

Goliad will compete in District 30-3A next season against Aransas Pass, Ingleside, Mathis, Rockport-Fulton and Sinton. The Tigers are on a five year losing streak and the most wins in a season over the last 11 years is only six.
