Monday Morning QB

Wow….week #7 was full of shockers and big time wins. Two #1 teams fell with 1A Canadian losing to #6 Stratford 17-7 and 2A Cisco losing to #20 Clyde 20-6.   Two teams who thought they should have been the pre-season #1’s now take over the top spots.

In 1A, the Maud Cardinals are now top birds. They have been dominating their way to a perfect 7-0 record by outscoring their opponents 306-57. The Arp Tigers will be the new top ranked 2A squad. The Tigers have also been very impressive outscoring their opponents 221-89 on their way to a perfect 6-0 record.

In 3A, #10 Celina (4-3) lost to #27 Prosper 33-7. The Bobcats have not lost 3 games in a season since 1997 and they went 4 rounds deep into the playoffs that year. Before that is was 1993 when they finished the year 7-3. No one has scored this many points or beaten a Bobcat team this badly since Crawford won 49-26 in the 2004 playoffs. That’s 48 games that a team has never scored at least 33 points on them!! In fact they have only given up 20 or more 5 times during that span. Very impressive run but its about time Celina let someone else win a few games.

The top 4A team showed why they are ranked above #2 Austin Lake Travis. The Everman Bulldogs (7-0) pulled no punches as they beat up on #18 Stephenville 56-3. Now, if we can get that Bulldog vs. Cavalier match up in the championship game.

In the surprise beating of the week, #7 Allen beat #2 Plano 56-23!!! The Eagles only lost to Euless Trinity 24-14 earlier in the season so I do not think anyone wants to play this team come playoff time. The Mustangs from Galena Park North Shore move into the #2 sport now. What a championship game that would be if Euless and GPNS meet up. Oh, and don’t forget Abilene and Odessa Permian think they will be around at the end.

To end this week’s article, let’s talk a little 7 on 7. LSG has always been a big supporter of 7 on 7 and we love to point out the success stories. This year’s state and national champions, the Richland Rebels are sitting at 7-0 this year!! The Rebels impressed everyone during 7 on 7 and they continue to impress. A big LSG salute goes to the Rebels. Keep it up guys!!

What do you have to say?
