Garland Misses Try and Naaman Forest Gets The Big Win

The #18 Garland Owls earned a Lone Star Gridiron salute for going for two and the win with 3:25 left in their game against the #35 Garland Naaman Forest Rangers Thursday night at Homer B. Johnson Stadium. The Rangers stopped Garland's two-point conversion try though and held on to win a District 10-5A showdown, 28-27.
Naaman Forest defensive end Chaz Ezidore deflected the conversion pass attempt of Adrian Phillips, and the ball fell short of the intended receiver in the end zone.
Garland got the ball back once more at its 34 with 19 seconds remaining, but could advance only eight yards before running out of downs.
The loss ends the chance of a perfect regular season for Garland (9-1, 5-1). Naaman Forest (7-2, 4-1), gets at least a share of the 10-5A title, should it defeat South Garland next Friday. Both teams had already clinched playoff spots before the game started.
Oklahoma recruit Jonathon Miller, who entered #5 in Class 5A area rushing, led Naaman Forest with 135 yards on 29 carries and two TDs. Most of that total, 107 of those yards came in the first half, when Naaman Forest raced to a 21-0 lead.
Phillips, led the Garland comeback. In the second half, the Garland QB ran for two scores and hit Keith Blanton with a 50-yard TD pass to set up the game deciding conversion.
The win was the second straight for Naaman Forest over Garland.
