A&M Consolidated Legend Returns to San Angelo while Raffield Takes Over

 

2011 Coaching Change: A&M Consolidated Tigers

Old Head Coach: Jim Slaughter -- Left to become San Angelo school districts executive director of athletics. He is a former San Angelo Lake View head coach. Coach Slaughter leaves for San Angelo after leading A&M Consolidated to a 80-45-0 record over the last 11 seasons. He has led A&M Consolidated to the playoffs nine times in 10 seasons, including a trip to the state semifinals in 2005. He ranks second in all-time coaching wins at A&M Consolidated. His first head coaching job was at San Angelo Lake View (1978-1986) where his teams went 56-38 in nine seasons. He then moved on to Corpus Christi Carroll (1987-1991) 5 years 55-7 record. After that he went to Lufkin (1992-1994) 14-18-1. He also spent five years as the athletic director at Carrollton Farmers Branch (1995-1999). The Tigers went 11-2 Last year (there best season since 1993). With that great season, he is now one of 70 head coachs in Texas high school history to have 200 career wins. His career record is 205-108-1 which is good enough for 64th place all-time. Coach Slaughter played college ball at Angelo State University and is a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor.

New Head Coach: David Raffield -- Was the head coach at Cypress Falls where he has led the Golden Eagles to a 56-39-0 record over the last 8 seasons. He is the only coach to lead a Cypress Fairbanks ISD football team to the state championship game. They played in the 2006 5A Division II game losing to Cedar Hill 51-17. Before becoming head coach at Cypress Falls, Raffield was an assistant coach there for 11 seasons. He was also an assistant at Alief and Pearland.

A good friend of Lone Star Gridiron, Coach Raffield commented, "The entire Raffield family is excited to be a part of the great tradition in college station. Consol is a great job and I can't wait to meet the staff and players. GO TIGERS!

Team News: The Tigers have had winning seasons 9 of the last 10 seasons. They play two great rival games and are 5-2 vs. Copperas Cove with 3 consecutive wins and are 4-8 vs. Austin Westlake since 1996 including 1-1 in state seminfinal games.
