Texas high school footballMike Says: This one is and has been a great East Texas Rivalry. Both teams have winning tradition that are continuing this year. Texarkana ended an 11 year winning streak and 14 consecutive non-losing seasons last year with their 3-7 record. Head Coach Barry Norton now has the Tigers faced in the right direction this year. Sulphur Springs is also in great position to have their 7th consecutive 8+ win season this year. The game is a classic high scoring offense (Sulphur Springs) vs. stingy defense (Texarkana). This has been a close all-time series with the Tigers leading by a slim margin. The Wildcats are an exciting offensive team with superstar Willy Ivery leading the way. The WILDCATS win it 42-28!!

Texas high school footballChris Says: I like a rivalry that goes back and forth like this one.  I also like the fact that this game pits two styles of play against each other - the "score-like-crazy" offense of Sulphur Springs and the " not in MY house" defense of Texarkana.  Both teams lost to Tyler Lee so I would compare how they did except Springs played them in Zero Week and you know those game just show who is ready, not who is better.  That said, Texarkana is at home.  TIGERS win 35-20!!

Texas high school footballLSG Intern Zach Says:Sulphur Springs has really disappointed me this season. The Wildcats got blown out twice in their first three games by Whitehouse and Tyler Lee, two games I figured that they would at least competitive. Though now it looks like they are finding their groove with Larry Pryor under center, as he had led the team to 140 points in its last two victories. And with tailback Willy Ivery running hard as well, give me Sulphur Springs in a close one. Wildcats 45-42.

Texas high school footballLSG Intern William Says: Texarkana Texas comes into this game with a no nonsense defense that have really only had one bad game all year their 38-37 loss to Tyler Lee. Excluding that game they have been holding teams to 14 points or fewer so far this season. However Sulphur Springs is loaded with athletes, specifically in the backfield with junior quarterback Larry Pryor and senior running back Willie Ivory they lead a relatively balanced attack into the teeth of a hard-nose defense. They say defense wins championships, but I think that offense wins this game. Wildcats win 42-23.

Texas high school footballLSG Writer Scott Says: After a 1-2 start, Sulphur Springs is still one of the most dangerous teams in east Texas. Junior quarterback Larry Pryor is a blue-chip prospect at safety with offers from the likes of Texas, Notre Dame, TCU, and Texas Tech. Pryor has 1,335 yards and 10 touchdown passes this season to go along with six rushing scores. Willy Ivery is perhaps the most underrated player in the state. Ivery has 751 rushing yards and five touchdowns in five games as he works back from an injury. For Texas, Kody Hunter leads the way on offense at quarterback while Tre Walker and Jarion Anderson are capable of making big plays. Anthony Rhone, a linebacker committed to SMU, leads the way on defense. Sulphur Springs is a serious darkhorse down the stretch and wins it, 48-45.
