Big Names Swap Jobs in Coaching Carousel
The moving vans seem to have started off slow in terms of number of jobs, but certainly not in terms of high profile positions. The Allen Eagles have hired Terry Gambill to be their next head coach. Gambill went 67-13 in 6 seasons at Waco Hewitt Midway. He took the Panthers to the 2011 Class 4A Division I championship game against Austin Lake Travis.
The Eagles former coach, Tom Westerberg left to take replace Barbers Hill head coach Ronnie Gage. Westerberg had a 148-17-0 record while with the Eagles. The 148 wins puts him in 239th place all-time for coaching wins. Coach Gage who has accepted the position at Paradise, is in 141st place with an all-time record of 179-86-8.
Under Coach Westerberg, the Eagles won state championships in 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
Other Allen Eagle streaks:
35 consecutive regular season wins
136 consecutive games scored
17 CONSECUTIVE WINNING SEASONS
13 consecutive 9+ win seasons
10 consecutive 10+ win seasons
The big question remaining from all of this swapping is "who will get the Midway job?" It is one of the most prized coaching positions in the state thanks largely to the job that Gambill did with the Panthers..
