The Lufkin Panthers History Page Has Been Updated
John Outlaw will lead the Panthers for the 17th season. Only one of those (his first) was not a winning season. In 2010, the Panthers will once again be a tough out. A 16th consecutive winning season is on its way.
The Panthers play a whos who in East Texas High School Football in pre-district play. They have great rivalry games with Longview, Nacogdoches, Tyler Lee, Tyler John Tyler and Marshall. Each of those is a Friday Night Classic every year.
Lufkin will go Division II come playoff time as they are one of the smaller 5A schools in the are. They have 300 less students than anyone in their district and 1500 less than their main rival The Woodlands. When the first round of the playoffs start, they have at least 500 less students than any school in district 13-5A. It will be a struggle but the Panthers are a Top 20 team in 5A and a long run in the playoffs should not surprise anyone.
