Updated: August 30, 2011
Stephenville had one of the biggest wins of this young season last week while Abilene Wylie won by 21 over their opponent. Wylie passed for 317 yards on their way to a 35-14 victory over Rockdale. Playing in one of LSG's games of the week, Stephenville took on top ranked Aledo and it was a classic as they came away with a 48-47 victory. Last year Stephenville won this matchup 33-21 at home.
Mike Says: Stephenville should be the overwhelming favorite on paper. The problem is that they are probably emotionally drained after that heart stopping performance the previous Friday night. Abilene Wylie is also a pretty decent 3A team and they are at home. Stephenville still wins it.....the YELLOW JACKETS win 35-17!!
Chris Says: The 'Ville's Coach Gillespie said, "The key to beating Abilene Wylie…we will have to play a full 48 minutes and be better than we were last week. Abilene Wylie is a very well coached football team and they are fundamentally sound. Their kids know how to play the game and will play very hard." He went on to add, "We are coming off of a very emotional win and have a great opportunity to build off of it. We certainly didn’t approach the season putting all our chips in on game one. Going to Abilene and getting a victory would be a huge boost for our program and our season." That said, Abilene Wylie is no slouch and despite putting up a big victory last week, they have not been emotionally tested like Stephenville. Stephenville will put another one in the "W" column 35-20!!
